59% of the Maltese public are open to donating money to cultural organisations to support their work, whilst 44% are willing to pay for cultural events that were previously free, and a further 37% are willing to pay ticket prices that are up to 10% higher than they were prior to the COVID-19 pandemic. These are some of the main findings from an Audience Research study commissioned by Arts Council Malta over the past months.

Minister for National Heritage, the Arts and Local Government José Herrera launched the fifth edition of the local band clubs support scheme, managed by Arts Council Malta. The €160,000 allocation for this scheme continues to build on over €1 million in direct funds allocated to local community-based cultural organisations during the last five years.

Four Maltese artists participate in the New York group exhibition UN/MUTE
An international group exhibition of collaborative works by 28 artists across multiple disciplines, including Maltese artists. On view at the Austrian Cultural Forum New York and Undercurrent, the exhibition is the culmination of an 18-month-long project that was launched in 2020 to provide European and NYC-based artists an opportunity for critical exchange and collaboration during the COVID-19 global pandemic.

Launch of a call for proposals for original musicals in Maltese to be produced between 2022 and 2026

Tax Deduction on Fees paid for Cultural and Creative Courses
Parents of children under 16 who attended Cultural or Creative courses during 2019 can now apply for a tax deduction scheme of up to a maximum of €100 for each child. If the course was provided by an entity or individual recognised by Arts Council Malta, parents are entitled to claim a deduction against their chargeable income of up to a maximum of €100 for each child.

Panorama Europe Film Festival in New York: Malta’s Limestone Cowboy screened to a full house
The New York premiere screening of Limestone Cowboy, Maltese director Abigail Mallia’s new film, was presented by Arts Council Malta at the prestigious Museum of the Moving Image on May 5th with positive reactions and strong response from the audience. The film was also screened to a packed house at the Bohemian National Hall in Manhattan two days later

28 fireworks factories benefit from a total of €140,000 to improve safety practices in pyrotechnics
28 fireworks factories, which operate on a voluntary basis, have been awarded €5,000 each to improve safety practices in pyrotechnics. The fund was launched for the second year running by Arts Council Malta, which falls within the Ministry for Justice, Culture and Local Government.

Another successful Notte Bianca
Yet another successful Notte Bianca has been accomplished with visitors flocking Valletta in the thousands for the largest festival in Malta to experience the quality entertainment provided. Leading contemporary Maltese poet and fiction writer Immanuel Mifsud, winner of the European Union Prize for Literature (2011) and winner of the Malta National Literary Award, will be participating in the New Literature From Europe Festival in New York happening from 7th till 10th December 2016.
