On Friday 22 May, Pjazza Teatru Rjal launched a new music video performed by its very own Malta Concert Orchestra with an underlying positive message that should help us ‘pull through’ the current situation.

“Like so many other cultural institutions worldwide, we had to press the pause button on our 2020 artistic season. Since patrons could not visit us physically this year, it was our turn to reach out – virtually – to our followers through this music video” said Christopher Muscat, Director of Pjazza Teatru Rjal.

In its relatively very short history, since it got a new lease of life as an open-air theatre, the venue has gathered much interest from both local and international cultural operators thanks to its history and unique features. PTR Chairman Charles Gatt explains how “Pjazza Teatru Rjal offers a varied calendar ranging from informal programmes that one would find in the Pjazza to more formal events that one would associate with the Teatru Rjal.”

The music video, based on John Miles’ 1976 single MUSIC, features some forty musicians from the Malta Concert Orchestra as well as leading, local singers. MCO conductors Paul Abela and Joe Brown had the painstaking task to coordinate the individual audio recordings but Maestro Brown believes that it was well worth the effort as “music knows no frontiers and united country results in a better future.” For Maestro Abela the final words of the song is a perfect summary of the video’s underlying positive message: “in this world of troubles, my music pulls me through.”

This production was made possible through the assistance of Arts Council Malta and the Ministry for the National Heritage, the Arts and Local Government.
