Arts Council Malta recognises the importance of Maltese feast decoration associations, cultural associations and social associations which work voluntarily in fostering, protecting and strengthening cultural traditions in our country. All this is done primarily on a voluntary basis and thus, in order to strengthen the work from these associations, the “Artistic Financing for feast decoration associations, cultural associations and social associations” project is being launched. This project is part of the implementing collaboration and strength programme. This project is being administered by the Arts Council Malta within the Ministry for The National Heritage, The Arts and Local Government.

In several towns and villages, both in Malta and in Gozo, we find associations normally related to traditional Maltese feasts which work on a voluntary basis. Within these associations there is a nucleus of people who work voluntarily throughout the year to prepare artistic decorations, cultural activities and other sociocultural activities for their village or town. This competitive fund’s aim is for these feast decoration associations, cultural associations and social associations in Malta and Gozo to increase the level in the artistic work they produce in accordance with contemporary development.

Their projects must qualify as one of the following:

  • Design and manufacture of street banners
  • Design and manufacture of light festoons
  • Design and manufacture of fabric pavilions
  • Design and manufacture of lighting pavilions
  • Design and manufacture of artistic pedestals
  • Design and manufacture of artistic decorations which are mounted in the streets during feast days (this excludes decorative garlands)
  • Learning investment and training related to the design and manufacture of artistic decorations
  • Cultural projects and activities
  • Social projects and activities
  • Restoration of all types of artistic decorations which are mounted in the streets during feast days (this excludes decorative garlands)
  • Statues which are mounted in the streets.
