Through a collaboration with Aġenzija Żagħżagħ, Arts Council Malta will be offering two mentoring programme, the Young Artist Development Programme and Artivisti. The programme spreads across a period of two years.

The Young Development programme is developed to invest in the training and development of young artists by increasing opportunities to continue building their skill sets as young creatives. 

The Young Artist Development Programme (14-17 years) aims to: 

  • Support the continuous professional development of artists in exploring, developing skills and building new networks 
  • Foster excellence in the fields of art and culture, and the advancement of knowledge and capabilities in such related fields 
  • Facilitate access of young artists to more training opportunities and creative development 
  • Encourage young creatives to continue building their skills 
  • Introduce the concept of social responsibility through arts and creativity 
  • Investing in transformation through knowledge, skills, attitudes, values, and creative exchange.


The programmes which include an 18-month mentoring programme is designed to provide the necessary incentive to young artivists to support participation in creative endeavours and opportunities for creative growth.

The Young Artist chosen for 2019/2020 are:

Luke Bugeja Gauci (17)

A 17 year old male dancer who have been training for 10 years. Trained in ballet and contemporary (various styles), who also has performed in many local and foreign productions both locally and abroad. These include ŻfinMalta’s PlayGround, Emergence and a performance for the Malta International Arts Festival 2018.  Luke is currently furthering his studies in Italy.

Mark Ciantar (17)

Mark has been interested in musical theatre since the age of four when he first started training at stagecoach. Ever since then, he has committed himself to the arts taking part in numerous shows and showcases whilst developing his skills. Within the last two years he has performed in a wide variety of productions ranging from Panto to Shakespeare to Musicals, whilst also being nominated for the Aġenzija Żgħażagħ Upcoming Artist Award at the Malta Music Awards. 

Ella Bonello Ghio (15)

Ella has been dancing since the age of three. For the past twelve years she attended Incite Motion Dance School in Sliema where she developed her technique and dancing skills in Classical Ballet, Contemporary, Lyrical, Spanish, Modern, Hip Hop and Repertoire.  Ella is presently working towards her Advanced 2 Ballet exam. Ella dances on a daily basis after school hours and longer hours at weekends. Over the years Ella has attended a number of dance courses, workshops and master classes both in Malta and overseas.

Christina Magrin (16)

 

Christina is a sixteen-year-old artiste who dedicates her days to nurture her rare musical acumen to take up a professional career in music and drama. During her relatively short singing career Christina travelled extensively, achieving prestigious feedback in various festivals, plays and other international events and gaining international exposure in both mainland and Eastern Europe and has also won the Malta Junior Eurovision Contest.  

Destiny Casa (15)

Destiny, started her training at BGB and is currently a student at Seed Dance Studios. She is at advanced level in Classical Ballet and Modern dance and aims to further develop her technique in order to pursue a career in dance. A committed and hardworking student, who has a strong passion for dance and uses it as a means to express herself. Destiny has attended several workshops and competitions, both local and abroad in order to continue to broaden her dance knowledge. Whilst she is looking forward to attending the Royal Ballet School spring intensive and English National Ballet summer intensive, she will be looking towards attending the final audition at Accademia Teatro alla Scala.

Ilaria Farrugia Pace (14)

Ilaria, a student at Seed Dance Studios, trains in Classical Ballet, Modern, Spanish and Contemporary Dance. She is currently training at Advanced level in the hope of furthering her dance studies internationally. She took part in various international competitions, summer intensives, including; English National Ballet and Rambert School for Contemporary and Classical Ballet, as well as numerous master classes with international renowned dance teachers. Her aspirations is to pursue full-time training.
