A series of educational initiatives will take place alongside other activities.

Arts Council Malta (ACM) is pleased to announce a collaboration with the National Skills Council (NSC) with the aim of furthering the value that the arts provide for career development opportunities across various sectors.

The agreement, which spans across two years, aligns with the objectives of the Artworks Campaign that was recently launched by ACM and which is intended to promote and invest in the arts as a dynamic learning tool and a diverse career path, while continuing to implement the areas of priority identified in Strategy 2025.

The collaboration will focus on the identification of emerging careers within the arts sector with respect to academic and vocational pathways. To this end, both ACM and NSC will explore global trends in the area of skills development systems, future skills, transversal skills, resilience, and adaptability in the cultural and creative sectors.

Arts Council Malta Chief Operations Officer Funding and Strategy Mary Ann Cauchi stated: “We look forward to promoting the benefits of integrating the arts into education and professional development. This collaboration highlights the role of the sector in providing a foundational skill set that supports a wide range of disciplines, in line with the principles laid down in Strategy 2025. This initiative will also be linked with industry partners and stakeholders to provide practical insights, resources, and opportunities, further enhancing the relevance and impact of arts integration. The Council is committed to continue developing high-quality curricula and programs that benefit from the latest research and best practices in both arts’ education and skills training.”

Through the agreement, ACM and NSC will jointly organise educational initiatives to promote awareness of career opportunities in the arts sector, among other sectors. This will be done alongside other events that explore and promote future and transversal skills and emerging careers.

These included NSC’s SkillScape Malta Business Brunch, which took place on the 6th of September, focusing on the importance of creativity in the workplace. The two entities will also be organising an interactive roundtable discussion at the State of the Arts National Symposium to explore emerging and future careers in the Cultural and Creative Sectors on the 24th of October.

Dr Jeffrey Pullicino Orlando, Executive Chairman of the National Skills Council, said: "This partnership supports the development of cross-disciplinary skills by fostering greater collaboration and enabling the shared use of resources, expertise, and networks. It underscores the National Skills Council’s commitment to driving the twin transitions of green and digital trends, with a particular emphasis on creativity as a key transversal skill. Through this synergy, we aim to equip our workforce with the creative capacity to innovate and thrive across all sectors in a rapidly evolving world."

The initiative includes a collaboration across social media channels to illustrate how creativity can be applied and transposed across art and non-art sectors. For more information, visit www.artscouncil.mt
