Another 28 feast-related projects will benefit from funds under this scheme

Minister for the National Heritage, the Arts and Local Government Owen Bonnici has announced the results for the second phase of the 2024 Artistic Heritage Scheme. Another 28 projects were given a total of €216,000 in funds so as to create new investment in Malta’s resources and cultural heritage as they relate to our country’s feasts.

The scheme was launched earlier this year by the Ministry for the National Heritage, the Arts and Local Government under Arts Council Malta’s administration. The first phase of this scheme saw a total of €850,000’s worth in funds being disbursed.

A total of 28 applications were eligible to be given funds in the second phase which is being announced today. As such, the amount of aid for feasts this year will have exceeded a million euros.

“In the last few years, we have seen a substantial increase in the government’s investment in the creative sectors. This investment is driven by principles of sustainability and inclusivity, which form the base of the arts. Our artistic heritage is also a part of this base, and represents an intrinsic part of our cultural identity which needs to be given the opportunity and resources to flourish”, stated Minister Bonnici.

“For the second time this year we are continuing to directly invest in this artistic heritage. As such, we have not only implemented our electoral pledge to ensure sustainable development in this sector, but also gone beyond. The projects which we are announcing today are yet more proof of the importance we give to our cultural landscape and artistic heritage. We are continuing to implement our commitments towards these institutions, such as, for instance, band clubs, fireworks factories, and feast organisations so that these can continue to contribute and pave the way for future generations”, conclude Minister Bonnici.

The investment in the safeguarding and promotion of cultural heritage and related resources is one of the chief priorities incorporated in Arts Council Malta’s strategy, with the aim of ensuring a sustainable future for Malta’s local social and cultural mesh.

For her part, Rita Falzon, Arts Council Malta’s Head of Funding added that, “Through this scheme we are ensuring that band clubs, fireworks factories, and feast organisations are enjoying the necessary support which allows them to continue evolving and contributing to our communities’ identities. Initiatives such as these strengthen our efforts to safeguard and promote the diversity of Malta’s artistic and cultural expression, which leads to a regeneration led by heritage, creativity, and innovation.”
