The seventh edition will have 14 competitive categories with 5 selected projects to be shortlisted as finalists, and 3 honours categories.

Arts Council Malta will officially open the nominations for the 2025 edition of the Premju għall-Arti, Malta’s most prestigious artistic awards, that celebrate the very best of Malta's cultural and creative industries, in the coming weeks.

The Premju għall-Arti is now taking place every two years, with a selection of categories that highlight excellence in various fields within Malta’s creative industries, including theatre, dance, visual arts, multidisciplinary projects, and more.

The high-profile, national event awards excellence in the field of culture and the arts, while encouraging more professionalism and distinction within the sector, in alignment with Strategy 2025’s mission to champion the advancement of the status of the artists, and cultural and creative practitioners.

Competitive Categories

This edition will once again include 14 competitive categories, with five projects to be shortlisted as finalists for each. The categories are:

  • Best artistic programme or season 2023/2024
  • Best artistic programme or season 2024/2025
  • Award for national artistic excellence
  • Best work for young audiences
  • Best project in the community
  • Best Production: theatre
  • Best Production: dance
  • Best Production: visual art
  • Best Production: multidisciplinary
  • Best Production: music
  • Best international achievement
  • Best creative and innovative enterprise
  • Young creative practitioner award
  • Creative practitioner award

Nominations for the below categories will also include a public voting stage that carries 25% weighting. These are:

  • Best Work for Young Audiences;
  • Best Project in the Community;
  • Best International Achievement; and
  • Best Creative and Innovative Enterprise

Voting will  then open at a later stage in 2025. Each member of the public is entitled to vote once, using their ID card number.

Special Honours Category

Honours categories this year are being held as follows:

  • Lifetime Achievement Award
  • Award for Cultural Promoters
  • Award for Artistic Legacy

Nominations are also open for the above categories, and these will be adjudicated by an internal board.
