Arts Council Malta has announced the results of the Apprenticeship Scheme. This initiative has the main aim of fostering professional growth in Malta’s cultural and creative sectors through a total investment of €180,000 which will place ten artists and practitioners in a mentoring scheme spread over an entire year.
The scheme was launched in July, with a call for hosts interested in offering mentoring to these apprentices. Thirteen hosts were accepted to take part in this scheme. These specialise in dancing, animation, research and communication, design, and theatre, among other cultural and creative sectors.
The second part of the scheme was launched with a call for creative practitioners. Eleven artists applied, with ten of these being chosen to be part of the programme. They will be receiving continuous support and guidance in order to aid their professional development.
Mary Ann Cauchi, Arts Council Malta’s Chief Operations Officer – Funding and Strategy, further stated that: “The 2025 Strategy places a priority on the promotion of excellence in arts and culture, the advancement of knowledge and skills in these sectors. Besides this, as part of the principles for national culture, Arts Council Malta had promised to support the enterprises which operate in these sectors. Through this Apprenticeship Scheme, we are continuing to implement this Strategy by supporting the professional development of creative professionals, while offering opportunities to strengthen the knowledge foundations, as well as the cultural and creative entrepreneurship strategies.”
The scheme covers up to 100% of a project’s expenses, with a maximum limit of €18,000 for every apprenticeship. The apprenticeships will take place between the 1st of January and the 31st of December 2025, with the hosts committing themselves to providing continuous and holistic on-the-job training while also offering their time to assist the apprentices.
