This year Arts Council Malta in New York partnered with Blue Note Jazz to present a Maltese Jazz artist at the Blue Note Jazz Festival for the first time ever.

The iconic Blue Note Jazz Club in New York City, the Jazz capital of the world, has, over the years, seen legendary jazz musicians such as Dizzy Gillespie, Lionel Hampton, as well as contemporary jazz masters such as Dave Brubeck, Chick Corea, and Chris Botti grace its stage. In 2011, Blue Note Jazz also launched a yearly Festival with many performances in multiple venues across New York City during the entire month of June.

It is a momentous occasion for Arts Council Malta to be presenting and participating in the Blue Note Jazz Festival’s European Sounds Series this year.

The Warren Galea Trio’s performance on June 22nd at the Blue Note Jazz Club, included two sets with the trio performing original compositions from their recently released album The Odyssey.

Warren Galea said: “The experience of performing at the legendary Blue Note, one of the greatest venues for Jazz in New York, in fact on the planet, was priceless . I cannot express my deep gratitude to ACM for providing me with this opportunity. I will forever treasure this moment as an early highlight of my career.”

Maltese guitarist Warren Galea who led the trio, was joined by drummer Henry Mermer  and veteran bass player Andy McKee, who has toured with Philly Joe Jones, Elvin Jones and Michel Petrucciani.
