During a press conference, the Minister for the National Heritage, the Arts and Local Government Owen Bonnici launched the sixth edition of Premju għall-Arti.

Speaking during the launch, Minister Bonnici stated “Premju għall-Arti is an exceptional way to recognise local talents and the remarkable contributions the culture and creative sectors are making, in order to continue with the enrichment of our cultural landscape. It is a testament to our commitment to nurturing and promoting a thriving arts community, fostering an environment where imagination and creativity can flourish."

Maria Angela Vassallo, Head of Communications at Arts Council Malta and Project Manager for Premju għall-Arti, delved into the changes made for the 6th edition. “The awards will be happening on a biennial basis, with competitive categories being increased to 14 for the 2023 edition, with 5 selected projects to be shortlisted as finalists. 2023 will also see the return of three non-competitive honour categories, which have remained unchanged. The Ambassador for the Arts award will be open for adjudication in the next edition, being in 2025."

The nominations for the awards are to be submitted online via www.premju.mt. The eligibility period for this edition is between 1st October 2021 to 31st of August 2023, with nominations to be submitted by Friday the 22nd of September 2023 (noon). The Premju għall-Arti team will then proceed to contact the nominees, for more information to be provided on the nominated work, via the submission of an application form.

The following is also a new aspect in the 6th edition. Nominations received for the Best Work for Young Audiences, Best Project in the Community, Best International Achievement, and Best Creative and Innovative Enterprise will go through a further stage of selection – Public Voting, which will also take place on www.premju.mt, at a later stage in the year, prior to the Awards Night. Each person will be entitled to one vote on the basis of their ID card number.  The public voting will carry 25% of the final mark.
