Minister for National Heritage, the Arts and Local Government José Herrera announced the eight arts education projects funded through the competitive call for the Arts Education scheme.

The scheme, which has been introduced for the first time earlier this year, is aimed at further supporting participation in arts education and training.

Addressing a press conference for which a number of beneficiaries were present, Minister Herrera stated that, “During the past month, through a number of entities within the Ministry for National Heritage, the Arts and Local Government, we have supported numerous initiatives to ensure that the sector remains resilient and attains a more sustainable outlook for the future.”

“Arts education is key to building stronger creative and cultural sectors, and our commitment remains focused on providing further opportunities for artists and creatives to flourish and avail themselves from better opportunities to grow and experience the arts and culture,” continued Minister Herrera.

The eight projects, taking place over the next eighteen months, have been selected by a panel of sectorial experts through a public call. Director of Funds and Strategy Mary Ann Cauchi explained how Arts Council Malta received 13 applications; “The selected projects focus on various disciplines, from contemporary to classical dance, beatboxing, electronic music and theatre, among others. The projects are also introducing to our country alternative teaching methods offering students the opportunity to explore and practice their art. The emphasis is not only on learning but also on exploration, promoting creativity as an important skill for the future of the sector.”

The second call of this fund, which aims to invest in arts education and foster transdisciplinary collaborations, is open until 14 September 2021.
