Dr Adrian Grima, Professor of Maltese literature at the University of Malta, and author of numerous poetry collections and short stories, was recently invited to be one of the participant authors at the 14th edition of the New Literature from Europe Festival – New York City’s top European literary event.
Celebrating cultural diversity and heritage while addressing the current challenges of globalization and migration, the Festival which was held over 3 days ( November 27 to 29, 2018) at the Istituto Cervantes in New York City included authors from 14 European countries with some of today’s foremost authors, editors and translators.
Adrian Grima spoke on two panels. During the first panel moderated by Eric Banks (director of the New York Institute for the Humanities at New York University-NYU) Adrian Grima discussed the relationship between truth and reality in fiction and in public discourse together with the other authors on the panel which included Brit Bildoen Sarah Meuleman, Vladimir Poleganov, and Ferenc Temesi.
In the second panel moderated by Nermeen Shaikh (Co-Host and News Producer at Democracy Now! — one of the leading U.S.-based independent daily news broadcasts in the world), Adrian Grima together with Portugese author Bruno Vieira Amaral and Austrian author Theodora Bauer, discussed the topic of Migration.
The Festival was co-organized by Arts Council Malta in New York together with Instituto Cervantes and the New York’s cluster of the European Union National Institutes for Culture (EUNIC) and the European Union Delegation to the United Nations in New York.
