Festivals Malta has announced a new cultural initiative to add to its already busy calendar

As of this year, Festivals Malta will be organising a series of rock concerts spread over a number of months featuring foreign and local artists.

Falling under the auspices of the Festivals directorate within Arts Council Malta, this annual series of concerts is entitled “Rock’n Malta”, which is under the artistic direction of Lou Bondi’.

This year’s confirmed line-up is as follows:

  • Krokus (20 May): Born to be wild; Easy rocker
  • The Wailers (25 August): Jammin’, No woman no cry, One love
  • Procul Harum (5 October): Whiter shade of pale, Conquistador

Negotiations are underway to secure at least another two bands for this year. These world-class concerts will be supported by a line-up of local bands, each in their respective genres – No Snow/No Alps, Fire, 12th Ode, The Riffs, Tash Sultana, Red Electrick and Different Light.

Annabelle Stivala, Director Festivals stated: “Following the success of last year’s Uriah Heep’s rock concert we have decided to launch this annual series which celebrates rock music in all its genres.  We are also proud of the fact that this intiative will be promoting local rock bands and supporting the Maltese rock scene in general.”

Lou Bondi’, Artistic Director, Rock’n Malta said: “For me this is a dream come true. I have been lobbying for the organisation of such rock events for 15 years and now it’s happening. I am honoured to be the first artistic director of Rock‘n Malta and although we are starting small, our ambitions are not.”
