The artists, whose ages range from 16 to 25, come from a range of artistic genres and disciplines, including literature, music, visual arts, design and dance, and will form part of ARTIVISTI.
ARTIVISTI is a new programme that aims to identify some of the best young talent across the arts and provide them with the necessary training, mentoring and networking to develop further their creative potential.
The selected artists are: Keit Bonnici (Visual Art, design); Luke Camilleri (DJ Funky Monkey - DJ/Producer/Beatboxer); Joanna Portelli (Fine Arts); Diane Cutajar (Literature/Writing); Michel Angelo Muscat (Tenor); Matteo Depares (Music Production); Gabriel Buttigieg (Visual Arts); John Cutajar (Piano, Trumpet); Maria Gauci (Dance); Martina Joy Azzopardi (Flamenco).
Each artist will be awarded a package of benefits and opportunities for a year. These include a grant of €2,000 for their personal creative development, the services of a professional mentor to support them in their artistic career, participation in an interdisciplinary residency programme and networking opportunities with other ‘Artivisti’. The artists will become members of the Artivisti alumni community to support other upcoming artists in the forthcoming editions of the programme. 89.7 Bay, being the ideal partner for this project due to its strong reach and involvement with today’s youth, will also be promoting the selected artists and updating its listeners with the work of the Artivisti.
The programme was launched by Arts Council Malta and Aġenzija Żgħażagħ together with 89.7 Bay to inspire and support the development of young artists.
