Minister for the National Heritage, the Arts and Local Government José Herrera announced that 25 band clubs have benefited from €165,000 in funds from the Arts Council Malta.

Minister Herrera stated that this fund is directly assisting band clubs. He explained that this was a particular year for band clubs due to the pandemic and thus these funds will certainly be very helpful. He continued that Government’s commitment remains in favour of our Maltese feast.

Minister Herrera, whilst thanking the National Band Club Association for the important work they are carrying out, reiterated his commitment that for the coming years these funds will be available to associations linked to the traditional Maltese feast.

 

Albert Marshall, Chairperson of the Arts Council Malta, explained that this fund started in 2013 in order to help artists and associations representing this important cultural sector. He stated that in total they received 33 applications amounting to €600,000.

Dr Noel Camilleri, President of the National Band Club Association, stated that this fund was created specifically to assist band societies as they play an important role in our country’s culture. He hoped that this fund would be continued and strengthened further in order to continue to protect what makes us Maltese.
