The talk, which will be held on 7 December at 6pm at the theatre-in-the-round at Spazju Kreattiv, will form part of a series of events co-organised by Arts Council Malta and the University of Malta’s Department of English with the purpose of starting a conversation about the state of arts criticism in Malta.
Mark Fisher will be in Malta to deliver a three-day mini course to University of Malta students between 5-7 December. He will also hold an informal discussion with several local arts critics on arts criticism in Malta and beyond.
This will be followed by a panel discussion with Prof Ivan Callus, Teodor Reljic, Dr Raphael Vella, Dr Paul Xuereb, Adrian Buckle, Prof Vicki-Ann Cremona and Prof Frank Camilleri as well as comments from the floor.The discussion will be chaired by Dr James Corby.
The 7 December public talk will also include questions and discussion from the floor, followed by a wine reception. Those interested in attending should email fundinfo@artscouncilmalta.org. Places will be allocated on a first-come first-served basis.
Mark Fisher is a freelance journalist and critic living in Scotland and specialising in theatre and the arts. Publications he writes for include The Guardian, Scotland on Sunday, The Sunday Times, The Herald and The Scotsman. From 2000-2003, he was the editor of The List magazine, Glasgow and Edinburgh's arts and events guide. Prior to that, he was the chief theatre critic of The Herald (Glasgow).
