UN/MUTE-10002 follows the narratives of ten European artists who have never visited New York City and ten NYC-based artists, paired into teams of two, one European with one New Yorker. Additionally, one artist is a digital immigrant, born before 1986, and the other is a digital native, born into the world of web browsers and email, after 1986. Over a series of Zoom sessions, each team’s collective creative process will unfold in a series of video recordings.
Over the next three months, Aaron Bezzina and New York City-based artist Kyle Hittmeier will collaborate on a singular project as TEAM MOUSE. Follow their collaboration on the project’s website at unmute.nyc and also on Facebook on https://www.facebook.com/undercurrent.nyc.
UN/MUTE 10002 is a project by EUNIC NY and Undercurrent, realized with financial support from EUNIC — European Union National Institutes for Culture — Europe’s network of national cultural institutes and organizations, with 36 members from all EU member states.
This project is co-organized by the Austrian Cultural Forum New York, Arts Council Malta in New York , Wallonia-Brussels International in New York, Czech Center New York, Delegation of Flanders to the USA, Goethe-Institut New York, Polish Cultural Institute New York, Romanian Cultural Institute, the Hope Recycling Station, the Jindrich Chalupecký Society, and supported by the European Union Delegation to the United Nations.

Aaron Bezzina (Malta) and Kyle Hittmeier (USA-NYC)
Aaron Bezzina (1991) earned a BA (with honors) in fine arts from MCAST Institute for the Creative Arts and an MFA in digital arts from the Faculty of Media and Knowledge Sciences, University of Malta. Bezzina’s work inclines toward the sculptural, but he is also interested in other media that encourage meaning making and further associative actions. He has been exhibiting work in Malta and overseas for several years. In 2015 he was awarded a residency by the European Investment Bank in Luxembourg. During the summer of 2016 he undertook a traineeship with the cultural association for the arts Nuova Icona in Venice and in 2017 he was one of the artists selected for the Maltese Pavilion at the Venice Biennale.
Kyle Hittmeier (b. 1983) is an interdisciplinary artist and curator whose work explores dynamics of power and authority by integrating CAD and rendering processes into physical media such as painting, drawing and sculpture. Hittmeier received a Bachelor of Art from the University of California, Davis, and an MFA in painting from Rhode Island School of Design. Exhibitions include the Boston Center for the Arts, Lamar Dodd School of Art, Project ARTSpace, Sister Gallery, Arlington Arts Center, Transfer Gallery, and Coherent Gallery. As curator, Hittmeier has curated with Super Dutchess Gallery, SPRING/BREAK, Warehouse421 & 411, Sol Koffler Gallery, and 92Y Tribeca. Hittmeier lives and works in Brooklyn, NY and teaches at Rhode Island School of Design.
