During a press conference to launch the scheme, Minister for the National Heritage, the Arts and Local Government José Herrera reaffirmed the government’s commitment towards all areas of the cultural and creative sectors.
“This scheme provides financial support to assist the sector to not only recover from recent events but also to continue supporting the building of a sustainable cultural ecosystem where the fibres that make up our national identity are safeguarded, even for the benefit of future generations”, stated Minister Herrera.
Present for this launch was Albert Marshall, Executive Chair of Arts Council Malta who elaborated on the benefits that arise from such Schemes. “Knowing that 35 organisations have benefitted from the first call of this scheme fills me with courage, because it shows that the enthusiasm to protect our heritage within these associations is still vibrant and it is our role to empower these associations to do more,” stated Marshall.
The aim of this investment is to continue fostering a sustainable and resilient cultural ecosystem across all areas, ensuring that everyone has equal opportunity to benefit from financial assistance. Among others, funding for this scheme qualifies for the design and manufacture of street banners, light festoons, fabric and lighting pavilions, artistic pedestals, artistic fittings; investment in training related to the design and manufacture of traditional artistic work; cultural and social projects and activities; and restoration of all types of artistic scaffolding and statues mounted on the streets.
