Joe Philippe Abela is one of the curators of 'In Between', a collective exhibition of Maltese contemporary artists happening at Galleria Biffi Arte in Piacenza, Italy. The curatorial team is a collaboration between Joe Philippe Abela and assistant curator Elyse Tonna, Italian gallery director/architect Carlo Scagnelli and Italian curator and professor, based in Switzerland, Susanna Gualazzini. The exhibition, taking place between 20th October 2018 and 3rd December 2018 will bring together eight established and upcoming local Maltese contemporary artists; Vince Briffa, Trevor Borg, Victor Agius, Aaron Bezzina, Ryan Falzon, Francesca Mercieca, Joe Smith and Andrea Zerafa. 'In Between' seeks to explore the multifaceted concept of time and each artist will be presenting different interpretations of “time” as a parameter that is internalised, experienced and communicated through different perspectives. Time perceived as a diffusing parameter, an inescapable dimension of infinite complexity; something that is yet to be perhaps understood. Biffi Arte Gallery is located on the ground floor of Palazzo Marazzani Visconti in Piacenza, Italy. The space has a total of six galleries, three of which have large windows overlooking Via Chiapponi, one of the main roads leading from Piacenza’s main duomo square. The palazzo has recently been restored, thus creating intimate spaces where Biffi Arte Moderna e Contemporanea could host regular exhibitions of both renowned and emerging artists. In Between will be hosted within the first two rooms: the Sala dei Pilastri and Sala Grande.
