Project title: Participation in the International Architecture Exhibition - Venice Biennale 2018

Richard England will be participating in the collateral exhibition “TIME-SPACE-EXISTENCE”, being held in Palazzo Mora and Palazzo Bembo in Venice, organised in the context of the 16th Venice Architecture Biennale. The exhibition, presenting an international group of architects, will be running from May to November 2018, and is being organised by the GAA Foundation and hosted by the European Cultural Centre. Richard England will be presenting photographic panels featuring over four decades of his architectural activity. He will also be travelling to Venice in May to be present at this prestigious international exhibition during its inauguration period.

Project title: The Island Indoors

The "Island Indoors" showcases the art of four Maltese artists in a small 19th century Castle called Hof de Bist near Antwerp, the home of the cultural centre in Ekeren. Apart from music, theatre, literature and community projects, this cultural centre also has a strong track record of contemporary art exhibitions. The works being exhibited there in November 2018, include the following: 'A Quick Fix' by Ryan Falzon, 'Position of Opposion II' (Hands down) by Aaron Bezzina,'In Memory of our Luminaries' by Ceasar Attard and Matthew Attard’s work 'Majjalata'. The art works of these Maltese artists exhibited in this Castle will also be complimented by a soundscape created by Flemish artists which will binding everything together.

Project title: Bahar Zmien Festival Premiere

The debut feature film, "Baħar Żmien", a 94min Maltese language, arthouse drama will begin its festival run this July with a world premiere at the prestigious international film festival, FIDMarseille as part of the International Features and First Film Competitions. FIDMarseille is a high-profile festival that attracts many international sales agents, distributors and critics, and has a direct connection with journals such as Cahiers du Cinema, Senses of Cinema and online platforms, Festival Scope and Mubi.During the festival, the directors and producers of the film aim to gain international exposure through reviews and interviews, secure a distribution deal, generate a sustained interest in their film making practice and establish co-production partners and investors for their next project.

Project title: Moving Mountains

Moving Mountains, a play written in the polyvocal theatre style, will be presented in June 2018 at the Oslo International Acting Festival in Norway, organised by the National Academy of the Arts – KHIO. The play was produced by Joyce Grech for FOPSIM and directed by Josette Ciappara, as part of the EU
Collective Plays project, and co-funded by the Creative Europe programme. The play deals with patient’s rights for minors and the concept of faith healing and it was performed at Spazju Kreattiv in Valletta in January 2018. Other organisations that will be present during the festival in Norway include the Royal Theatre from Montenegro, Prime Cut Theatre Company from Ireland and La Gramigna from Italy.

Project title: Brothers in Arts

Antoine Farrugia will be travelling to Germany in July 2018 to present his Maltese limestone sculptures in a studio and gallery space in Zeitingan. This event was developed following a collaborative artistic project entitled “The European Wall” which was held in Malta between Maltese sculptor Antoine Farrugia and German artist Volker Hauswirth in January and February 2018, where both artsts worked on limestone in a Maltese quarry. These works were exhibited at Iniala Gallery in Valletta in February 2018.

Project title: Maltese Short Films at the Clermont-Ferrand short film festival, France

Film Grain Foundation has been invited to curate a program of Maltese short films to be screened at the next edition of the Clermont-Ferrand Short Film Festival in France in February 2019. The Clermont-Ferrand Short Film Festival is one of the world's largest film festivals dedicated to short films. In terms of audience there were more than 160, 000 people in 2017 and in terms of professional presence, it is considered to be the second most important and largest film festivals in France after Cannes. The Market Screening is mostly aimed at industry professionals and consists of a short-film programme not exceeding 100 minutes in total running time. The Market program will be published on all official programs as well as in the Market guidebook distributed to all industry players present at the festival.

Project title: Eastern European Tour

Moveo Dance Company will be showcasing one of its most current works entitled “The Other Door” in Eastern Europe, namely in Budapest, Bucharest and Timisoara. Moveo Dance Company has been invited by three very prestigious theatres there; the German Theatre, the National Dance Centre Bucharest, and the Bakelit Multi Arts Centre to perform their work and to give workshops based on the performance to aspiring artists in each city. The artistic advisor of Timisoara 2021 (City of Culture), Chris Torch, will also be attending the performance at the German Theatre in Timisoara, to also discuss the possibility of Moveo collaborating with a local company for a performance there again, leading up to Timisoara 2021.

Project title: St Paul Chamber Ensemble Messa de Requiem Poland

The St Paul Chamber Ensemble will be going on a concert tour to Poland between the 4th and 10th November 2018, where they will be presenting three recitals from their most recent work, the Messa da Requiem, which was premiered at St John’s Co-Cathedral last March 2018. They will also be conducting a music appreciation workshop for students with special needs. This initiative is being undertaken as part of the celebrations of the 100th Anniversary of Polish Independence and the 100th Anniversary of the Greater Poland Uprising and is the culmination of the joint project. The Orchestra’s invitation to the project was also due to Valletta currently holding the title of European Capital of Culture in 2018.

Project title: Homelands - Music for winds by Maltese and Canadian Composers

Dr. Karin di Bella, Associate Professor of the Department of Music at Brock University in Ontario, Canada has invited Dr. Rebecca Hall, Principal flute at the MPO and Lecturer at the University of Malta to visit Brock University in January 2019. During her visit in Canada, Dr. Hall will be presenting lectures and recitals as part of her joint project, with Dr di Bella, entitled “Homelands - Music for winds by Maltese and Canadian Composers”. In Canada, Dr Rebecca Hall will present lectures on Maltese composers of wind music, with special reference to compositions for flute. While paying homage to some of the pillars of Maltese twentieth century composition, the lecture will also discuss works by "next generation" composers, including works by John Galea, Veronique Vella, Ruben Zahra, and Albert Garcia.

Project title: Mara

The New Victorians will be performing their multidisciplinary theatrical piece entitled MARA for six nights at the Vault Festival in London. MARA is an original piece of theatre that celebrates the story of women through time by means of sound manipulation and electro-acoustic music, performed live. Starring an all-female cast, the work was devised by the company, and composed and directed by The New Victorians. MARA was supported by The Mackintosh Foundation and played to sold out houses as part of the Valletta 2018 European Capital of Culture Programme and at The National Theatre of Scotland’s Exchange Festival in Inverness. MARA is a journey through time, showcasing original songs and music as well as physical theatre, highlighting that every story is worth telling, and that no voice should be silenced.

Project title: Fuzzhoneys Album Launch and UK Tour 2018

Fuzzhoneys will be touring round the UK in mid-November 2018 with their album ‘Love Juice’, following the album’s launch at the end of October. This project will feature collaborative talents from within various artistic sectors: music, visual arts, set design and theatre. The debut album consists of eleven tracks, which were recorded between March and November 2017 at Temple Studios. The main artistic concept for the album revolves around equality and is a celebration of self-identity and love. The album launch will be held at St Aloysius Theatre in Birkirkara this October. Following this, the band will be travelling to London, Manchester, Sheffield, York, Liverpool, Doncaster and Leeds in a ten- day tour.
