KRE 03-17-3002 - St. Joseph Mater Boni Consilii
Dawra Durella max-Xemx, il-Pjaneti u s-sistema solari
This project will be focusing on the contextual employment of Robotics for learning about space and the solar system. Robotics will be used in a creative artistic scenario whereas artistic recreations modelled by students will instil the building. Students will also use LEGO kits in a cross-thematic multidisciplinary manner for inquiry and problem-based learning scenarios. Some information sessions about the solar system will be delivered by merging together science and technology, art, history of science, beliefs, religion and space travel. This will be followed by discussions around unravelling environmental and social aspects that are pushing humanity forward towards the colonisation of other planets in the solar system. In the process students will avail themselves of LEGO to build storylines for sequential and computational thinking. They will construct scenarios through the use of artistic techniques such as drawing and painting and the creation of 3D models to enrich their storyline. Subsequently they will make use of hand held devices to produce photo stories in digital storytelling activities that may ultimately be reproduced and published in social media including but not limited to YouTube.
KRE 06-17-3005 - Pieta Primary - San Ġorġ Preca College
Rhytmos
In this project, students will be exploring the notion and concept of rhythm in three artistic disciplines, namely; music, art and dance. With the help of class teachers and visiting creative practitioners, students will also examine this topic of rhythm in other curricular subjects. While for a child, the concept of rhythm is more obvious in music and dance, exploring it through art, poetry, reading, writing, science and maths among others, may need more understanding and guidance. In this project, students will have the opportunity to work with professional artists who will guide them to improve their artistic skills and creativity, as well as develop further their thinking abilities and motor skills. This project is also linking to the School Development Plan which highlights the constant need to improve the children’s literacy and writing skills as well as nurture a healthy discipline and respect for others.
KRE 24-17-3023 - Gozo College Middle School
The Golden Ratio
The golden ratio has been used throughout the years by numerous artists, including painters, photographers and architects, in their endeavour to portray the beauty around them. Mathematically, the golden ratio is a number that emerges from a simple and powerful sequence of numbers known as the Fibonacci sequence. Moreover, it crops up in many examples in the natural world, from the grand spiral arms of galaxies to the graceful curve of the nautilus shell. This project will focus on seeking out the golden ratio in the world around us, employing it in photographic expression, and constructing an art exhibit that follows this most beautiful of mathematical patterns. All the school students will be first attend an interactive seminar about the Golden Ratio and it’s relation to the natural world. After this launching of the project, a photographic expedition will be organised by the schools in which students will be encouraged to seek this phenomenon in nature and photograph it. Students will be working on the photographs with our creative practitioners and our I.T. teachers during mid-day break clubs and IT lessons. These photographs will be printed on PVC and installed in a permanent hanging mural in the school foyer.
KRE 16-17-3015 - Dun Manwel Attard Young Adult Education Resource Centre
Transformations
In this project students will be working with teachers and creative partners in the development of a multi-disciplinary performance involving the dramatization of a story with text, movement and music. The performance will be exploring themes of transformation through the life of a butterfly. Students will have the chance to work with musicians and dancers to establish the creative narrative of the project. Then students will also get a chance to design costumes and props for the final performance. This project is also intended to develop further the students’ emotions while having a therapeutic effect.

The Sea
This project will guide students through a journey of discovery where the theme of the sea shall be explored through an interdisciplinary approach which includes art, dance, drama and music. Through the various art forms, students will be helped by the creative practitioners to explore the sea from different perspectives and also see how other artists have experienced the sea throughout history. Moreover students will be attending talks on specialised subjects, such as Ocean literacy and Marine Archaeology which is intended to open a window on the past.

Performing Arts – Insects in the Garden
This project consists of a performance by young students where they will be provided with opportunities to engage and express themselves in singing, dance/movement and drama. Students will be able to engage in a creative process through a scientific theme, that of local insect fauna. Insects found in a typical Maltese garden will be the subjects of poems, songs or a dance. Each piece will link to the next in order to create a story-like narrative. The project will result in a final performance involving all participating classes. The final performance will be executed in front of all school students.
KRE 11-17-3010 - St. Nicholas College Middle School Rabat
Science Theatre
In this project, students will create a theatre production focusing on space and astronomy. They will start by attending workshops by scientists from MCST, focusing on the subjects of Earth and Space at Esplora’s planetarium. At the planetarium, they will engage interactively with the different media available. In teams, they will search on internet to find more information about space and astronomy while getting a deeper understanding of the subjects. After, students will construct a plan and start to work on a basic theatrical script, stage design and sketches based on their scientific findings, while learning about theatrical techniques. The creative practitioners, teachers and scientists will monitor the students and provide feedback. During this creative process, students will learn about working creatively in a team, using their findings, imagination and bouncing ideas off each other and the experts, to compose innovative works. They will explore alternative solutions and creative ways to express their arguments. The project will reach a final event, which includes a performance and an exhibition which will be held during STEAM theatre night as part of Science in the City Festival.
KRE 20-17-3019 - Bishop's Conservatory Secondary School
Fil-Harsa t’Ghajnejk Nara Sbuhija
In this project, students will be introduced and immersed into the world of image producing techniques. Students will explore freehand drawing, photographic imaging and print making, which will be combined to produce fine artworks. The theme on which the project will focus is the person’s profile across different cultures and generations. This should increase social awareness of the realities that girl students of different ages face in different cultures. Students will also learn how to use computer programmes to manipulate images and creating different effects. The final product will be an installation of the students’ works which should make the community who visits the school more aware of the cultural diversity around us.

The Maltese Tales
In this project, students will create a multi-media experience which tells the story of the Maltese people and their nation over specific periods of History. Students will get involved and interact with senior citizens as well as more mature students. The themes of humanity, English and Drama will be explored using puppetry, film-making, film-editing and creative scriptwriting. Senior citizens will be narrating and recreating their first hand experienced wartime stories or memories passed on by their parents and grandparents. This project is intended to increase the richness in cultural heritage of Malta as a nation.
KRE 01-17-3000 - Maria Regina College, Naxxar Learning Support Centre
Express It, Inside Out
This project will take a multi-disciplinary approach of various creative arts therapies in order to help students with Social Emotional Behavioural Difficulties (SEBD) learn how to better manage and express their emotions, which in the long run will reap life-long benefits to their general health and wellbeing. Due to the traumatic background of some participating students, the school educators believe that conventional talk therapy is not working since their negative past experiences has severely influenced their communication skills. Thereby by embarking on this project, students will benefit from client-centred sessions in drama, dance, art, shadow puppetry and digital media with the aim to help them improve their verbal and non-verbal communication skills through the creative arts.
The sessions will be held throughout the scholastic year on a regular basis with different qualified therapists and professionals in the field. Each therapy has its own unique approach and art form, which will provide the necessary flexibility to meet the complex and different needs of each participating student. We ultimately endeavour that the students, with the help of all the professionals involved, would be able to create and involve themselves in a performance of shadow puppetry, which will be filmed, revolving around the themes of feelings and emotions.

Let’s Sing and Dance a Picture
In this project, students will be exploring the different styles of music from classical to rap, while exploring their connections with other art forms including dance and visual arts. Various creative practitioners will be involved in working with different professionals in the various fields and exploring different mediums. The project will culminate with a virtual art gallery and a promenade festival, which will include short performances by various professionals and by the students.
KRE 10-17-3009 - University of Malta Cottonera Resource Centre CRC
Science and Gender – undermining stereotypes through robotics and engineering
In this project, fifteen students will be given tuition in engineering and robotics through drama and performance. Drama will be used to help encourage participants to explore their gender identity and the social expectations of that perceived identity. Students will participate actively during robotics workshops to create their own robots and make them function through coding compute programs. Drama and sociological oriented sessions will run in parallel where the focus will be gender stereotypes, gender role expectations and how they impact on a girl’s future. Identity and self-expression will be explored in storytelling workshops where the students will be encouraged to challenge social expectations of being less likely to work in science-based careers. Eventually students will have to bring together drama and robotics by deciding on the script and narrative of their story. This project is intended for the participants to challenge female stereotypes in a male dominated world.
KRE 09-17-3008 - Guardian Angel Secondary Education Resource Centre
The Mediterranean Aquarium
This project consists of the students creating an installation made of a wall ceramic mural depicting local marine flora and fauna. The installation will also feature a layered effect to make it interactive with the school population. Students will learn about sea organisms and their place in the different strata of water depending on their needs and habitat. Students will also learn about the production of colours and the importance of colour to marine organisms according to the life they lead. A smaller version of the box aquarium installation will also be created and it will be donated to the local community, to be displayed in a public space.
KRE 14-17-3013 - Kirkop Secondary School
Metamorph
This project explores the themes of nature and life through robotics where the metamorphosis of a frog is virtually recreated. Students will first go through the different life stages in the metamorphosis of a frog. Then they will be provided with a robotic kit whereby they will be lead to start thinking how they can recreate this life process. The whole creative process will also be documented on a blog where students can give peer feedback through quad blogging. A video will also be designed to mould the life story of a frog and to bring together the narrative theme. The best three student videos will be disseminated to all primary students in St. Benedict College.
KRE 26-17-3025 - Valletta Primary
Valletta Through a Kid’s Lens
Through a STEM approach and using photography as the main medium of this project, participating students, will explore the beauty of the city of Valletta. Students will learn about the art of photography, focusing mainly on landscapes. During lessons, students will learn about all the important parts of a camera, the importance of depth of field, exposure and the effect that proper lighting will have on a good quality picture. The importance of perspective, composition and post photo editing will also be explored as part of this project. In the second phase of the project, a number of students will take pictures of different landmarks around Valletta. Students will also be able to see and try photo editing programmes until the desired effect is reached and their photos are printed. A picture of the student who took the photo will be included along with a caption about the landmark why it was chosen. These pictures will be displayed permanently in a designated area at school.
KRE 23-17-3022 - Attard Primary School, St. Nicholas College
Ic-Ciklu tal-Farfett – Spettaklu ghat-Tfal
The aim of this project is to facilitate creative education by providing a unique opportunity for kindergarten students to learn and acquire different skills through Performing Arts. The project will be divided in four phases, that will then lead up to a final end of project performance. The first phase will focus on complimenting and extending the present school curriculum. Students will be learning on the life cycle of a butterfly and its metamorphoses. To compliment this information, craft activities will be organised by teachers whereby students will be creating and using props for the final performance. In the second phase, students will be attending introductory workshops so as to introduce young children to the world of Music and Dance. During the third phase, students will be exposed to interpretative literature. A guest speaker will be invited to provide a story reading session to interpret the literature connected to the end performance. The fourth phase consists of bringing together all the information provided. Students will have the opportunity to engage and contribute their own ideas for the final performance.
KRE 07-17-3006 - Gozo College Rabat Primary
Legends with Legs
Legends with Legs is an immersive 2 day workshop for year 5 students, retelling Gozitan folk legends through art, drama, music and movement. The creative team will be choosing 3 folk tales from Gozo and rewrite them into modern English. These stories will form the basis of the workshops that will take place at the Visual and Performing Arts School in Gozo. The workshops will be documented and a short film will be made for each story and will be presented along with an exhibition of the artwork created at the Cittadella Cultural Centre in November 2017.
KRE 08-17-3007 - San Ġorġ Preca Ħamrun Secondary School
The Art of Stained Glass and the Science Behind It
This project will bring together different lessons from interdisciplinary subjects to incorporate curricular links where students will be asked to make research about stained glass and create a chart. Then the whole school population will be shown a presentation about stained glass and the processes of its manufacture while explaining scientific laws of optics in relation to stained glass. After, students will be will be given hands-on experience on how to do this kind of artwork using filters and aluminium foil instead of glass and soldering. The interested students will then be asked to improvise and design their own stained glass replicas under a certain theme that they will choose with the guidance of the creative practitioner. This could be either abstract art or related to various subjects taught in school. Finally these stained glass replicas will be assembled in the school foyer in a permanent installation.
KRE 17-17-3016 - San Andrea School
I Create
This project consists of creating two permanent artworks in the main entrance of San Andrea School. One of the artworks will feature a three-dimensional free standing sculpture in iron and copper. The other artwork will consist of a 3-panel piece in basso relieve which will be mounted on a wall. During the research phase of the project, students will learn about shapes and geometry. Students will also get a first had experience in working with different media. Students will engage in collaborative processes fostering ideas of sharing and cooperation. Above all, they will understand the creative process of how art is made; the thought process in brainstorming, the research necessary to build on that idea consisting of sketching, drawing and taking photos, the art making process and finally the evaluation of the process which finally leads to the actual realisation of a project.
KRE 21-17-3020 - St Clare College Sliema Primary
Unity and Diversity
This project will take off with an intense creative brainstorming activity from which the different themes will be chosen as well as the best way how to depict them. The students’ active participation will consist of the creation of a more welcoming school foyer by basically implementing what the curriculum promotes, namely the basic elements and principals of Art. This shall be executed by the creation of some panel paintings with the nature themes of earth, sea, sky and space, while merging them with a technological satellite installation in the middle of the staircase which will form part of the sky and our universe. This will be made possible by using various art painting techniques and sculpture making methods focusing on the cultural and lingual diversity among the school’s students, the world around and uses of science and technology in everyday life.
