Applicant: CASA DE EDITURA MAX BLECHER - TOMA ANA MARIA INTREPRINDERE INDIVIDUALA
Reference Number: CETG-10-18-3681
Project title: Translation into Romanian of “Penelopi Tistenna” by Immanuel Mifsud
Amount Awarded: EUR 4797
Denisa Duran will be translating into Romanian the award winning poetry book by Immanuel Mifsud entitled “Penelope Tistenna”, a collection of 88 poems focussing on the universal theme of “the state of waiting”. People spending their lives in the uncertain condition of waiting – for something or for someone... The universe of the book is created by darkness, silence, falling leaves, unfinished gestures, tears of rain in the shadow, deserted sea and wind blowing on people’s destinies. Besides having won the Malta National Award for 2013, Immanuel Mifsud's work is also an important collection because it has been translated into English and a selection from it has been published in the UK by one of the most prominent British publishers, Arc Publications, in 2017. The same collection is also being published in Serbian translation and has also been published in Macedonia earlier this year. Max Blecher Publishing House, who will be publishing the Romanian translation, are more than convinced that “Penelope Tistenna” should also be published in Romania, especially since the poet has already made a name with the Romanian readership, as his European Union Award winning book “In the Name of the Father (and of the Son)” was published in Romania and this year another award winning novel by Mifsud, “Jutta Heim”, will also be published by a Bucharest based publishing house. The Romanian Publishing House is more than confident that “Penelope Tistenna” will prove to be a successful publication in Romania, especially since the author is already known there and has also been in direct touch with the Romanian audience during his readings in Bucharest and Iași (2016, 2017). Following the publication of the book, the Publishing House will have reviews, readings and interviews to promote and disseminate the work.
