Karl Vella Foundation

Since November 2016, the children at the Karl Vella Foundation have been given the opportunity to follow a pottery programme. The project is supported by the President’s Award for Creativity, which is managed in collaboration with Arts Council Malta.

Through a partnership with Alka Ceramics, the children have been enjoying hours of fun working with clay. Most of the sessions are held at the Karl Vella Foundation Centre. Under the direction of an artist, the children have learnt about the various uses of clay, tried their hand at copying very basic objects and were also given the opportunity of giving free rein to their imagination by creating articles of their own fancy. The children have also been to the Alka Ceramics pottery factory, where they followed a video about pottery making and were also given the opportunity to glaze their own objects. The project psychotherapist listens to the children describing their creations and provides explanations to any questions the children might raise.

The Karl Vella Foundation was established to provide educational and psychological assistance to children in families disrupted by serious illness of a family member.
