Participation in the 13th edition of the International Poetry Festival of Granada, Nicaragua
Maltese poet and author Karl Schembri was invited to participate in the 13th edition of the International Poetry Festival of Granada, Nicaragua, in February 2017, following in the footsteps of Maltese poets Adrian Grima, Nadja Mifsud, Immanuel Mifsud and Antoine Cassar. This annual festival gathers over 100 poets from more than 60 countries, reading their works in the original language accompanied by translations read in Spanish. Schembri held several readings during the festival, including during the poetic carnival--a parade around the city of Granada in which poets read in their language from the top of a carnival float as it is carried around the city, bringing together poets, local residents and visitors from all over the world.
Schembri read works from his anthology of poems Passju taħt ix-Xita (2013) and Remember the Future (2013), as well as more recent unpublished works.
Schembri's participation was made possible thanks to Arts Council Malta's Cultural Export Fund -Travel Grant.
