Creative Labs and Artistic Performances in Palestine
Arts Council Malta are beneficiaries of a EuropeAid grant to implement a project that will enhance and nurture intercultural creative exchange between European and Palestinian performing arts organisations and artists through capacity-building, networking and showcasing.
This project will see ACM collaborate with lead partners ‘Al-Harah Theatre’ to promote intercultural creative exchange between European and Palestinian performing artists, performing arts organisations and cultural leaders. The project will kick off in January 2018 and has a duration of 18 months, during which it will create links between creative practitioners and the community to nurture mutual understanding across different cultures, creating a favourable environment for cooperation and conciliation, promoting tolerance of the different cultures. The results of this project will contribute towards the cultural sector’s capacity in connecting with the community’s problems and sensibilities as well as to the outside world through capacity-building, networking and showcasing.
The main activities of the project are:
1. Creative Labs: sector-driven thematic capacity-building workshops and forum for Palestinian creative practitioners, addressing:
- Fundraising & marketing opportunities for Palestinian performing artists;
- Female cultural leaders in Palestine;
- Devising theatre for children and young people;
- Sustainable planning for performing arts organisations.
2. Caravan Palestine: a 4-day networking activity organised in collaboration with associate partners IETM and the Palestinian Performing Arts Network fostering the exchange of ideas and good practices between 20 Palestinian and 20 European performing artists/arts organisations, encouraging new artistic collaborations between the participants. It will be an opportunity for European performing artists to visit main Palestinian cultural venues, meet local artists and cultural professionals and be exposed to local performances.
3. Artistic Performances: 2 Festivals in different locations in Palestine, with the participation of European and Palestinian performing artists: a Street Festival and an International Children’s Theatre Festival. This will be organised in collaboration with ŻiguŻajg International Festival for Children and Young People and ASSITEJ (International Association of Theatre for Children and Young People).
Arts Council Malta’s expertise in devising the national cultural strategy and funding programmes will be key to the implementation of the capacity-building activities and also to the effective realisation of this project.
