Join PRS for Music and Arts Council Malta for an evening of discussion on how to develop your music career.
Now more than ever before, musicians and artists are taking a DIY approach to creating, releasing and mobilising their music. As a musician, regardless of whether you are pursuing a career from your music or not, it is vital you understand some fundamentals about the way the music industry works, how you might develop your career and how your music can generate revenue. This includes having a better understanding around copyright and publishing, the role of PRS and dealing with contracts, among many other aspects.
In this ACMlab session, in collaboration with PRS for Music, we will be collectively exploring some of the more frequent issues that are faced by both established and aspiring musicians when navigating their way through the music industry. These include:
The session will be led by Stuart Belsham, Outreach Manager at PRS for Music.
The talk will be preceded by a short performance from The Ebbin' & Flow thanks to Malta Sound Women Network. The Ebbin’ & Flow is a collaboration between Jess Rymer and Glen Montanaro which explores Maltese and Yorkshire folk songs and stories through an experimental fusion of electronic and folk music.
Stuart Belsham
Stuart Belsham is part of the Outreach team at PRS for Music. As Outreach Manager, Stuart’s role is to engage with music creators, artists and the wider music industry community in order to raise awareness and a better understanding around PRS for Music – what it is, what it does, how and for whom. Stuart provides talks and lectures for those considering music as a career, develops and hosts PRS related events and participates at music industry events. Having worked at PRS for Music for the last 30 years, Stuart has an extensive knowledge of the organisation.
PRS for Music represents the rights of songwriters, composers and music publishers in the UK and around the world. As a membership organisation it works to ensure that creators are paid whenever their musical compositions and songs are streamed, downloaded, broadcast, performed and played in public.
