Project Title: YAWYB - A Remote ReVisit

"You Are What You Buy (YAWYB) - A Remote ReVisit" departs from a previous project entitled "You Are What You Buy" (2016-2017), a yearlong transdisciplinary project that reflected on our need to affirm ourselves as consumers. "YAWYB - A Remote ReVisit" aims to revisit such concepts in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic. In the past few weeks we found ourselves bound to change our daily habits including our social behaviours and attitudes. The project will be looking into: changing rituals, new choreographies of compromise, asking also how to maintain an ethical sustainability. The collected data will be shared and disseminated through creative means, namely (i) a video work co-created with the participant community members, (ii) a set of illustrations and poems presented through a small edition of handmade book art pieces, and (iii) a digital publication. "YAWYB - A Remote ReVisit" also plans to hold an event/pop-up exhibition and a public talk at the final stage of the project.

Project Title: Women Photographers in 1860-1890s Malta

This project is the second phase of a previous research application which expands on our initial findings. We are investigating the first women studio photographers in Malta between the 1860s and 1890s, during the golden age of Malta's studio photography. The main goal of the research is to bring to light the work of underrepresented women photographers in Malta. The outcome of the project is to give these women photographers presence in the public consciousness. Maltese history for centuries has been inscribed by mostly male authors, hence inherited patriarchal biases diminished the inclusion of women as the women were not the ones in power.

Project Title: Synth in Six

Synth is Six is a project that will study how a synthesizer is built and, through vigorous experimentation and feedback from established electronic music artists, build a modified synthesizer. This project will be synchronising the machine to other synthesizers, drum machines and other music devices so it can be used for music production and live performances. Furthermore, the project will be searching for new ways of how the modules that build a synth can be used in other artistic formats, particularly in interactive art.

Project Title: ELETTRONIKA - History of Electronic Music Production in Malta

The aim of this project is to conduct research on the long history of electronic music production in Malta by exploring archives, conducting interviews and gathering as much details as possible on various aspects related to this subject. a number of audio recordings, photographic material, publications and video material from periods spanning the past years will be collected and gathered and uploaded in an existing online digital infrastructure. The aim of this exercise will be to setup a process by which such material can continue to be digitally archived beyond the period covered by this project. a series of oral history interviews will be performed at this location and at the end of the project some of these will be selected to be displayed at an exhibition together with some of the physical material gathered as part of the Circuits event which will be organised yearly by EMM.

Project Title: Performance as an experience of nothingness

The project Performance as an experience of nothingness is a research project which translates in a practical and experiential manner the insights of the spirituality and the philosophy of the French mystic Simone Weil, particularly those on art and theatre, to the performative medium. The project will cover sixteen weeks of research and experimentation on a daily basis between a director/researcher and a performer, together with other artistic collaborators. Through meditation and deep focusing, the performer will seek to achieve a state where all external and internal clutter is eliminated so that the performer can react to the internal impulses that are experienced in the external and internal void. These internal impulses will be converted into physical actions. At the end of the sixteen weeks the research project will be presented to a select audience as a work-in-progress to experience and give feedback on the research.

Project Title: STAGING RAGE (Research)

Staging Rage aims to construct a physical theatrical method which channels the state of rage without censorship. This will be done by combining the theatricality of performance as lubricant while still being able to, in Mime terms, stage yourself as “yourself” (i.e. not a character nor actor). The research will work on three fronts. Firstly, a solo investigation by the artist herself. Next, it shall branch into workshop-explorations in Malta and Amsterdam with a small group of performers. The final stage will involve the sharing of research outcomes by showing some of the theatrical/scenic material of the work for a select invited audience. The whole process will be documented online via the Facebook page Staging Rage (Research). Photos, videos and texts from the journey will all be documented there.
