Elyse Tonna is participating in a week-long short course at the Royal College of Art in London. 'Curating Contemporary Art and Design: Theory and Practice' forms part of RCA's summer school and is an intensive programme involving one-to-one support, masterclasses, workshops, crits, collaborative projects, site visits and hands-on activities taught in the world’s leading art and design university. The theme of the short course for Summer 2020 is 'Why now? The urgency of curating' and participants will be encouraged to think collectively as a group but also develop individual curatorial positions. The group of selected international students will be asked to develop a project during the short course and will be receiving feedback from reputable practitioners in the field. The course is led by Rosie Ram, doctoral candidate at RCA, and Professor Victoria Walsh, Head of Programme for MA Curating Contemporary Art.

Project Title: Participation in the Marina Piccinini International Masterclass

The Marina Piccinini International Masterclass offers an intensive week of masterclasses, workshops, lectures and concerts led by world-renowned flautist Marina Piccinini and a faculty of acclaimed artists. The programme takes place at the New World Center, Miami, and promises a unique opportunity for participants to find artistic inspiration and development in a collaborative setting of the highest level. Marina Piccinini will present daily masterclasses entitled “Beyond the Score: Expression through Interpretation,” exploring the complete repertoire for the flute as a solo instrument from the Baroque to Contemporary eras. These are aimed at cultivating interpretative insights and stylistic knowledge, and at honing the technical skills required to be an engaging performer. In addition to the masterclasses, there will be a variety of discussions, guest workshops, and flute exhibits, as well as a "Control Your Breath" movement class.

Project Title: Arezzo Summer Course on Print Collections in Italy

The Arezzo Summer Course, now in its fourth year, is a world-renowned short course delivered by leading authorities in prints and drawings. Its object-based sessions are held in museums and libraries in Italy. This course is the ideal opportunity to see artworks, learn from experienced professionals and network. The Arezzo Summer Course is organised by the Art in Tuscany Study Center, the Accademia delle Arti del Disegno di Firenze and the Fondazione Ivan Bruschi di Firenze. It is headed by Professor Alessandra Baroni, art historian, professor at the University of Rochester NY, curator and a Paper Project Director for the Getty Foundation. The training will allow the applicant who is also conducting research into a collection of prints from the 18th century Maltese collection of Count Saverio Marchese to further her training and advance her specialisation in the field of print history.

Project Title: Figurative Sculpture Workshop at the Florence Academy of Art

The beneficiary will be attending a one month course at the Florence Academy of Arts, Italy during which he will be taught the various techniques needed to create figurative sculptures whilst understanding further the human form and the structure of the human body. During this 4-week intensive course participants will work on the structure of the human head, forming it in clay. Training will then advance to cover full figures with the final week focusing on learning to cast in rubber and silicone. This workshop will be taught by Mr. Eran Webber, a Florence Academy of Art Graduate and an internationally renowed artist from Israel.

Project Title: Fashion Mix of various fashion skills

This week-long course which will be held by Central Saint Martins University provides a mix of various fashion skills which are required throughout the design process: looking at the process from visual research to concept realisation while ensuring that a personal approach is kept throughout the process. Each daily workshop will cover a different area within the design process including building the portfolio and designing a unique fashion collection. The course focuses on experimentation, communication and individuality. Further to the above, the course will also cover fashion figure drawing, fabric draping and creating colour ways for fashion. It will also provide access to the university library as well as providing the opportunity to meet a professional from the industry. The course will be taught by Audrey Ang who has worked in various creative fields including film, as a womenswear designer for Yohji Yamamoto, as an accessories designer and has tutored at the University for several years.

During these two weeks he will be able to attend classes and learn from world renowned animators. 2D animation is a niche creative skill set which has been and still holds relevance in today's animation and film industry.

The Producing Certificate offered at London Film Academy is split over 3 phases that all benefit in understanding and working hands as a film and television Producer. Through the initial phase LFA aim for their students to gain an intensive overview of practical producing and the film & TV industry, including paperwork, talent and budgets. Tutors will use examples and case studies through an interactive environment. Seminars are delivered by experienced producers and also feature guest speakers who are experts in their own field. LFM creates a film school setting where you can expand your contacts and collaborate with students from all courses as well as via the LFA Filmmakers' Club. Second phase is learning an essential element in film making: Movie Magic Scheduling and Budgeting which, is the recognised industry standard software for scheduling and budgeting films and TV drama. Finally, a one-day workshop about Production Management, covering the key duties and day-to-day tasks like paperwork and risk assessments. It is aimed at those looking for a practical overview of the role and its main responsibilities that are essential for a production to run smoothly.

Fighting Monkey is an applied practice for human development through movement. Fighting Monkey [FM] practice treats each and every person as a unique universe interconnected with the environment and within its own structure. The Fighting Monkey teaching program consists of workshops around Europe whereby Rochelle will be training with other great practitioners to cultivate communications within the social and physical environment. The training curriculum consists of: participation in workshops, theoretical material and online lecturing. The workshops will be led by Linda Kapetanea and Jozef Frucek with the assistance of other Fighting Monkey Practice senior teachers. This cycle of coaching and mentoring shall inform, challenge and enrich the potential of Rochelle as a teacher.

Project Title: Working with Actors: Getting the Right Performance

In this intensive 5-day workshop, director Udayan Prasad (The Tunnel, The Yellow Handkerchief, My Son, The Fanatic) guides participants through the fundamental techniques for working with actors. The short course, delivered online is designed for directors with some filmmaking experience, but little or no involvement in the performing arts, the course looks at how actors are trained and the methods they use in order to inhabit their characters and bring them vividly to life. This has been identified as a sectoral need as directors often lack an understanding of the specific needs actors have in their efforts to help the director achieve their vision and a vocabulary with which to communicate effectively with their cast.
