This call is open for emergency artists based in Malta

The Malta Society of Arts is Malta’s oldest institution for supporting the arts. As per its mission statement of supporting artists in their pursuit of excellence, it is currently launching a pilot residency programme in collaboration with Arts Council Malta which is aimed at emerging practitioners who are interested in developing their work and expanding their horizons in new and possibly challenging directions.

The residency is inspired by the concept of emergence – a term often used to distinguish a stage of an artist’s practice. The MSA and ACM residency programme takes an expansive approach to this term with an understanding and excitement for what it can mean for an artist and their craft. MSA and ACM invite applicants to this pilot residency programme to engage with what emerging means to you and your artistic practice.

The MSA and ACM Residency Programme provides studio space for 2 artists concurrently – one visual artist and one performing artist – for 6 months, a materials budget of €750 as well as a stipend of €2500.

Artists are invited to take inspiration from the legacy, archives and programming at MSA. In addition to studio space, the residency includes a programme of educational and professional development events including mentorship meetings (artistic, curatorial, managerial) as well as multidisciplinary activities to support the exploration of the artists’ practice and prompt fresh perspectives on their work.

Residency artists will have access to the studio during MSA opening hours: Monday – Friday 9AM – 7PM, Saturday 9AM – 1PM

Note: Summer residency follows summer hours (Monday 9AM – 7PM, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday 9AM – 1PM, 4PM – 7PM, Friday 9AM – 7PM, Saturday 9AM – 1PM) and thus is extended by a month.
