We are looking for a Maltese artist for a 3 month ONLINE RESIDENCY in the Spring of 2021. It is a requirement for this artist residency that the candidate has never been to New York before. The chosen artist will receive an honorarium for participation of 1,000 USD.

COVID-19 has shuttered artists from residencies, travel, and exhibitions. This project dives into our digitalized world connecting EU and New York City based artists from various disciplines and gives them an opportunity to work on a collaborative artistic project.

During a three-month online residency the process of creative collaboration is put under a magnifying glass and presented via edited Zoom recordings onto a website giving the viewers the unique opportunity to monitor it.

The project explores what it means for a European artist to virtually meet a transatlantic counterpart of different age, race, culture and artistic medium in order to create a new and unique work of art together. Together they will engage in a 3 month virtual residency co-organized by Undercurrent gallery in Brooklyn, New York. A virtual presentation of the art works is scheduled to take place on Europe Day, May 9th, 2021.

Co-organized and presented by Arts Council Malta in New York,  UN/MUTE 10002 is a  follow up to Project “10001” that was co-presented in Summer 2020. For more info on last summer’s Project “10001 see https://10001.undercurrent.nyc/original_intro
