A call for auditions is being made for tenors and basses to join KorMalta

Arts Council Malta has set up KorMalta, Malta’s National Choir, to invest in choral music and choristers in Malta. KorMalta handles both an a cappella as well as symphonic repertoire with musical ensembles such as the Malta Philharmonic Orchestra.

Apart from rehearsing for concerts for which the choristers get paid, the members of KorMalta are given the opportunity to experience masterclasses with local and foreign professionals and improve their singing and general music skills, with the aim of helping them become professional choristers. These classes are provided free of charge for KorMalta singers.

A call for auditions is being made for tenors and basses to join KorMalta. Auditions will be held on 17 February from 3pm onwards at the MPO offices, 4th floor, Catholic Institute, Floriana.

Interested parties are to send an email to chorus@maltaorchestra.com until noon of 13 February 2019. A pdf version of a score of a classical piece of music of one’s choice to be performed during the audition should also be sent by the same date.

The audition will be structured as follows:

  • A few scales to give an idea of vocal range
  • Performance of the classical piece of your choice
  • Sight reading a small piece provided on the day
  • You may also be asked to sing a choral piece which will be sent to you when you apply for the audition.

Not all successful candidates are guaranteed a place in KorMalta, as the balance of voices needs to be taken into account. A waiting list will however be created and candidates may be asked to join the chorus for bigger projects as the need arises.
