Established in 1895, La Biennale di Venezia, a platform for the exhibition of works by international artists, is today acknowledged as one of the most prestigious cultural institutions. The 60th edition of the Art Biennale will open on 20 April until 24 November 2024.

Following the announcement of the 2022 budget in October, Arts Council Malta unveiled its funding schemes for 2022 based on 5 main pillars: Resilience, Artistic and Community, Development, Education, Cultural Heritage and Structural. The schemes are aimed at building on the momentum generated from last year’s RESTART schemes which were a catalyst in the regeneration of the creative and cultural sectors following the disruptions brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic.

59% of the Maltese public are open to donating money to cultural organisations to support their work, whilst 44% are willing to pay for cultural events that were previously free, and a further 37% are willing to pay ticket prices that are up to 10% higher than they were prior to the COVID-19 pandemic. These are some of the main findings from an Audience Research study commissioned by Arts Council Malta over the past months.

The Events Assurance Scheme is aimed at providing the necessary assurance for cultural and artistic professionals in case of any potential re-introduction of restrictive measures beyond the current ones. The scheme will provide mitigation on measures that can have a devastating impact on the industry and will provide support to cover investments in terms of time and equity in the preparation for the organisation of activities/events.

Parents of children under 16 who attended Cultural or Creative courses during 2019 can now apply for a tax deduction scheme of up to a maximum of €100 for each child. If the course was provided by an entity or individual recognised by Arts Council Malta, parents are entitled to claim a deduction against their chargeable income of up to a maximum of €100 for each child.

Minister for Justice, Culture and Local Government Owen Bonnici had the opportunity to meet with the first two youths participating in the Salzburg Global Forum for Young Cultural Innovators. This is a partnership agreement between Arts Council Malta and the Salzburg Global Forum, amounting to a total of 30,000 dollars.
