22 applicants which fulfilled the required criteria are being added to the list of projects which will benefit from this scheme

As part of the Ministry for Culture, Lands and Local Government, Arts Council Malta has just announced the full list of 55 projects which will be benefitting from the funds allocated to the Screen Support Scheme under strands 1-5.

The scheme, which closed on the 15th of April, was originally allocated an investment of €1,800,000. The scheme attracted a substantial number of applications which went beyond the expected numbers, and so the decision was taken to allocate an extra €860,000 in investment terms so that all the projects which qualified for the scheme could be catered for.

Minister for Culture, Lands and Local Government Owen Bonnici stated: “Here we are seeing an exceptional case where we saw so much promising talent that it would have been a shame if certain projects, which have as much potential as the first 36 that we had already announced, would have ended in nothing. This was an unforeseen investment which has now reached the generous sum of €2,660,000. We took this decision because the government is well aware that the domestic film sector has urgent needs, and as such we are determined to continue fully working so that the promises we made to this sector are fulfilled.”

Arts Council Malta Executive Chairman Luke Dalli further stated that: “When this scheme was first transferred under the Council’s control, our strategy was clear from the start. We agreed with the stakeholders that there needed to be bigger investment. And, as soon as we saw the record number of projects that were honouring this industry, we saw to it to help all those who deserved such assistance so that no one would be left behind.”

Applications for Strand 6 of the Screen Support Scheme are currently open for projects which are in the international promotion phase, as another €100,000 will be invested in the promotion of domestic films by the end of the year. The applications will close on the 18th of November 2025.
