Last November Tricia Dawn Williams travelled to New York and Philadelphia for individual masterclasses with Margaret Leng Tan and American composer George Crumb. These classes focused on Makrokosmos; a monumental work for amplified piano and extended technique. During the master classes, she followed Leng Tan’s coaching on how to correctly tackle this score – which, in addition to playing the keyboard, requires the strumming and plucking of the strings – engaging the pianist in a whole new sound world.
