Celebrating freedom of artistic expression and access for all
What does it mean to have a right to culture – not as a privilege, but as something we are all entitled to? Arts Council Malta’s latest campaign tackles this very question, inviting artists, creatives, and the general public to reimagine culture as a shared experience that’s open to everyone.
The campaign brings this message to life through an eye-catching public installation just outside Valletta. Three large cubes, each representing a different creative discipline, have been set up along Vjal Nelson.
Designed to encourage curiosity and interaction, these cubes are being transformed into live performance spaces where artists and the public meet in real time. Whether it’s music, theatre, or visual art, you are invited to walk through and around the structures, experiencing the raw energy of live artistic expression.
Beyond the installation, we are taking the campaign across Malta and Gozo. Look out for striking visuals featured on public buses and in key urban areas, encouraging artists and people from all walks of life to engage with the concept of cultural rights. The aim? A powerful reminder that creativity should be part of everyday life, not something reserved for a few.
Right to Culture Resources Pack
The Right to Culture Resources Pack forms a key part of the initiative. This free toolkit is available in print, online and as an audiobook in both Maltese and English.
The Resources Pack is aimed at creatives and cultural organisers, offering practical guidance on making work more inclusive, accessible and relevant to the communities they serve. It’s not just about inspiration – it’s about giving artists the tools to turn inclusive practice into action.
Beyond the moment
The Right to Culture campaign is more than a moment – it’s a movement that speaks directly to all artists and practitioners, calling upon the sector to. It calls on you to see your work not just as expression, but as a right and a bridge. It’s an invitation to claim your space, and to help open the door for others.
Because when artists lead, culture doesn’t just thrive. It reaches further, speaks louder, and belongs to more of us.
