11 organisations and festivals active in the cultural and creative sectors have been selected to become Arts Council Malta’s strategic partners during the years 2017-19.

Beland Music Festival
The annual Beland Music Festival brings together a large number of artists for live performances in a large scale festival spanning a number of days. The festival aspires to become a platform for the development and promotion of local artists in the music sector. It provides a showcase for local talent to perform to a wide audience with other local and international established artists.
The Valletta Film Festival
The Foundation aims to strengthen Malta’s national film culture by organising a number of annual international events that promote new and progressive, high quality films and exchange of knowledge among filmmakers. The Valletta Film Festival is a leading cultural event in Malta and a major film festival in the Mediterranean, presenting to audiences high-quality productions from all over the world. The festival aims to build a legacy that goes beyond film exhibition and industry networking. It seeks to inspire present and future generations to use cinema as a medium to understand and reflect on who we are.
The Malta Mediterranean Literature Festival
Now preparing for its 11th edition, the Malta Mediterranean Literature Festival and translation workshop organised by Inizjamed bring together active authors from Malta, the Mediterranean and beyond, to showcase contemporary writing and thinking, to promote interaction across languages, geographies and artistic genres, and to discuss some of the major issues of our time. Over the 2017-2019 period, the MMLF will endeavour to continue enhancing its artistic programming and international prestige, expanding the geographical range of its invited authors around and beyond the Mediterranean area, and improving its publicity and outreach through thoroughly planned implementation and marketing strategies. The MMLF aims to show that literature, whether on the page or on the stage, should not be seen as a luxury to be consumed, but as an important part of individual and collective development.
L-Għanja tal-Poplu
Through its annual festival L-Għanja tal-Poplu: Festival tal-Kanzunetta Maltija, the main aim of the organisation is to produce new and original high-quality songs in the Maltese language, for the benefit and enjoyment of the public in general. The annual music festival, which is now in its 40th edition, always worked hand in hand with authors and composers.
Malta Fashion Association
The Malta Fashion Association’s main aim is to promote the Maltese fashion industry and Maltese fashion design as a valid creative art form that forms part of our national identity and culture. The vision of the Malta Fashion Association is to promote fashion as an art form in its own right, whilst promoting Maltese artists working in the industry. The Malta Fashion Week is a professional platform for Maltese fashion designers to showcase their annual collections. Through this event, Maltese designers have the opportunity to network and build relationships with other professionals in the sector.
The Malta Short Film Festival
Now in its 8th edition, the Malta Short Film Festival is a staple event that filmmakers and the general public look forward to every year. The main aim of the Malta Film Foundation is to showcase Maltese short film locally and internationally, offer constructive criticism to filmmakers who want to grow creatively and technically, and strive to attract more people to appreciate film and work in the industry. Its mission statement is to support the local indigenous industry.
BLITZ
Blitz programmes are designed to engage with artists and arts professionals at all stages of career development, from programmes for the very young, to internships, postgraduate education, workshops and public lectures and talks. Artists are supported through an exhibition programme which brings together local and international artists, and selects work/projects based on merit and relevance. All collaborations are undertaken with the long-term view to building networks which provide advocacy, support, and exchange of all kinds, including residencies, internships, exhibitions, information, research and ideas.
Kinemastik
Kinemastik’s vision is to encourage the emergence of new audiences for the purpose of intercultural expression in various segments of culture. The organisation offers, to both professional and emerging artists, the possibility to perform at unique venues. Kinemastik aims to establish exchanges between artists on both a local and international level. Kinemastik aims to become a means through which dialogue and communication between the various musicians, actors, filmmakers (producers/directors) and writers will flourish and give rise to imaginative and original works. Kinemastik strives to encourage and promote activities concerning the visual arts, media and music.
META Foundation
Valletta Contemporary is a newly founded art space in the heart of Valletta. The META foundation administers Valletta Contemporary and is committed to provide ongoing opportunities to nurture local and international artists and encourage their professional development through different initiatives, including a lively programme of residencies. The Foundation also plans a number of collaborations with Spazju Kreattiv and the Valletta 2018 Foundation to provide a series of residencies to local and international artists. Regular workshops and seminars, often delivered by international experts, will be held on a regular basis at Valletta Contemporary. It brings together a wide network of contacts related to the international community of contemporary artists and art practitioners. Valletta Contemporary will encourage local artists to develop their own international contacts and networks, help and support in connecting with other artists, participate in art fairs, and engage with prestigious art educational institutions.
Opening Doors Association
Opening Doors Association aims to create opportunities for people with learning disabilities to participate in artistic and creative activities in Malta and abroad. The association creates ongoing training opportunities for people with learning disabilities to develop artistic skills that manifest in expressions of artistic quality, thus raising the profile of the contribution people with learning disabilities. Opening Doors also aims to create opportunities for European and international travel and exchange with other artists and organisations whose profile addresses the inclusion of people with disabilities in the creative field. Moreover, it provides the necessary support for the growth and development to the full of its members’ artistic potential.
Teatru Salesjan
Teatru Salesjan acts as a hub in which new and established artists collaborate and share creative ideas together whilst strengthening a familiar atmosphere. The organisation works at facilitating opportunities for social and educational development through participation in the arts whilst introducing the community (especially children and young people) to new elements of performing arts. This is to ensure that any activity at the theatre is of benefit to the wider community whilst creating possibilities through which young people from all backgrounds can be introduced to creative entrepreneurship.
