Applicant: Kumitat Festi Esterni San Ġorġ Martri
Reference number: CC07-21-827
Project Title: Inħarġu fis-Snajja
Amount awarded: €3,313
Traditional craftsmanship is possibly the most tangible manifestation of intangible cultural heritage. Inħarrġu fis-Snajja’ is mainly concerned with the skills and knowledge involved in craftsmanship and, in turn, the preservation of treasured cultural heritage by renowned artists for future generations. To date, statues, plinths, and other cultural heritage of which Kumitat Festi Esterni San Ġorġ Martri is custodian have been maintained by a pool of skilled artisans. These artisans are now over 60 years of age, and failure to facilitate an intergenerational knowledge transfer would spell the death knell for such cultural heritage and skills. Inħarrġu fis-Snajja’ thus involves the organisation of a short training course and mentorship in artisan faux-marbling and moulding. The project also includes the organisation of a series of roadshows in the community, that will serve as a showcase for skills learnt by trainees.
