The restoration works will be possible thanks to financial assistance which amounts to \u20ac120,000 given by the Komunit\u00e0 Malta agency to be used in a range of essential works for the conservation of the dome, including the restoration of wooden apertures, the dome\u2019s waterproofing and lantern, as well as the conservation of the stonework itself. The existing membrane of the roof will also be undergoing repairs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThe Parish Church dedicated to St Mary is considered to be a cultural and historical icon in the community and is renowned for its stupendous artistry, including its elaborate stone etchings, frescoes, and the celebrated titular statue of the Assumption of Mary, which is itself an artistic masterpiece,\u201d Minister Bonnici said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThrough this new investment, the church will be restored because this is an investment which reflects our commitment to preserve and promote our national heritage. Through such initiatives, we will continue to implement our electoral pledge to advance and celebrate Malta\u2019s unique heritage and cultural landscape,\u201d concluded the minister.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
From his end, Minister Byron Camilleri stated that the government remains committed to use all the tools it has to invest in the communities and cultural patrimony, because it is truly close to the people. \u201cThe Komunit\u00e0 Malta agency is working hand in hand with the community, as through this work not only will cultural patrimony be protected, but the church will continue to be used every day by the community,\u201d the minister concluded.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The funding of the G\u0127axaq church\u2019s restoration was possible thanks to a collaboration between Arts Council Malta and Komunit\u00e0 Malta.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
