{"id":8931,"date":"2025-02-14T09:26:46","date_gmt":"2025-02-14T09:26:46","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/artscouncilmalta.gov.mt\/?p=8931"},"modified":"2025-08-29T03:18:25","modified_gmt":"2025-08-29T01:18:25","slug":"il-premju-ghall-arti-winners-announced","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/artscouncilmalta.gov.mt\/en\/il-premju-ghall-arti-winners-announced\/","title":{"rendered":"Il-Premju g\u0127all-Arti winners announced"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Arts Council Malta has announced the list of winners for the first edition of&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/artscouncilmalta.gov.mt\/archive\/opportunities\/il-premju-ghall-arti\">Il-Premju g\u0127all-Arti,<\/a>&nbsp;the national arts awards which celebrate the achievements of the cultural and creative sectors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The award acknowledges excellence in artistic work premiered during the preceding year and are unique in their focus on culture and the arts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThese awards are another way in which we recognise and encourage excellence in the arts, as well as strengthening the sector so as to foster its further growth,\u201d said Culture Minister Owen Bonnici at the Awards Night, a red carpet gala event which was held at Teatru Manoel yesterday evening and broadcast live on TVM2.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The winners \u2013 spread over 11 categories \u2013 included Prof Oliver Friggieri receiving the Lifetime Achievement Award while Francis Sultana received the Ambassador for the Arts Award. The People\u2019s Choice Award, which was voted by members of the public, went to MADC for their production of&nbsp;<em>The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie.&nbsp;<\/em>The Malta Philharmonic Orchestra, which also had the highest number of nominations, received the Best Production Award for&nbsp;<em>Symphony No. 9<\/em><em>&nbsp;by Ludwig van Beethoven, Europe Day Concert.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/artscouncilmalta.gov.mt\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/02\/1521890489.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Other categories included Best Project in the Community, Best International Achievement, Young Artist of the Year and Best Creative Enterprise. The categories were selected according to Arts Council Malta\u2019s strategic priorities as outlined in the Council\u2019s&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/artscouncilmalta.gov.mt\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/02\/English-Create2020_web.pdf\">Strategy2020<\/a>, its five-year plan for the cultural and creative sectors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The winners were selected by a jury of sectoral experts and Arts Council Malta representatives from the nominations submitted through an open call.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Awards covers projects, productions or activities in the cultural and creative sectors which have been premiered or presented between 1 September 2016 and 31 August 2017.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The winners received a prestigious award, a sculpture in glass and ceramic, by Maltese artist Kane Cali.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A tribute to Maestro Joseph Vella, who passed away recently, was also presented during the event.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe Awards are set to become a yearly appointment for artists and all those involved in the cultural and creative sectors, serving as a point of inspiration,\u201d said Arts Council Malta executive chairman Albert Marshall.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Il-Premju g\u0127all-Arti is an initiative of Arts Council Malta through the National Fund for Artistic Excellence within the Ministry for Justice, Culture and Local Government.
