The awards structure, which is now a biennial one, underwent significant updates in the last edition.

Minister Bonnici stated that, “The Arts Awards are a prestigious celebration of Malta’s cultural and creative industries, offering a powerful platform that recognizes artistic expression as an essential value for contemporary cultural life. The new award structure was a transformative moment which builds upon that which we have already achieved, and represents a strong alignment with the principles of cultural rights. Once again, we are implementing our electoral pledge to continue developing opportunities which recognise and celebrate cultural assets and a diverse number of identities in Malta, which implement concrete actions which continue to strengthen the sector’s foundations.”

Albert Marshall, Arts Council Malta’s Executive Chairman, stated that “The Arts Awards represent a unique opportunity for cultural practitioners, organisations, and artists to receive national recognition for their pending contribution in the creative sector. This reflects the first guiding principle enshrined in the 2025 Strategy, namely that of working towards the advancement of artists and cultural practitioners. The Council will endeavour to do its outmost to continue inspiring fresh perspectives and ideas in the continuously evolving cultural landscape.”

This year, once again, there are 14 competitive categories which celebrate achievements in sectors such as the best artistic programmes, theatre, dance, visual arts, multidisciplinary projects, and more. Five projects will be chosen as finalists from each category.

The nominations for the Best Work for Young Audiences, the Best Project within the Community, the Best International Achievements, and the Best Creative and Innovative Enterprise, will also undergo a public voting phase. This will carry 25% of the final mark, with each person entitled to a single vote on the basis of their identity card number.

Besides the competitive awards, the event will also present four different non-competitive honours, the very prestigious Honour for an Artistic Career, the award for Cultural Promoters, and the award for Artistic Heritage. For this edition, the Ambassador for Arts will be announced, who will have a tenure of four years.

Projects can be nominated online for each competitive category on premju.mt.
