{"id":14603,"date":"2025-09-09T09:26:53","date_gmt":"2025-09-09T07:26:53","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/artscouncilmalta.gov.mt\/?p=14603"},"modified":"2025-09-09T09:27:01","modified_gmt":"2025-09-09T07:27:01","slug":"the-ghonnella-at-the-japan-expo-2025","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/artscouncilmalta.gov.mt\/en\/the-ghonnella-at-the-japan-expo-2025\/","title":{"rendered":"Couture reinterpretations of the &#8216;G\u0127onnella&#8217; at the Japan 2025 EXPO"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>On Tuesday, 2nd September, at the Osaka, Japan 2025 EXPO, the Malta Pavilion showcased <em>\u2018The Black Garment\u2019<\/em>, a d\u00e9fil\u00e9 by Azzopardi studio. <em>&#8216;The Black Garment<\/em>&#8216; is commissioned by Arts Council Malta<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>&nbsp;\u2018The Black Garment\u2019<\/em> is a fashion project that explores the deep cultural and historical significance of the Maltese G\u0127onnella, as a tactile continuation of Luke Azzopardi\u2019s publication <em>\u2018G\u0127onnella: Deconstructing the Garment\u2019,<\/em>&nbsp;first published in 2011. This collection combines contemporary couture with traditional folk dress, creating a dynamic dialogue between past and present, reality and imagination.
