The residency is a residential and work grant that requires the artist to live and work at Westwerk and facilitates both work on an artistic project and networking with the Hamburg cultural scene.Westwerk is centrally located in inner-city Hamburg, in a relatively large complex of buildings on Fleetinsel that houses further studios, galleries, an art bookshop and a small theatre.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Benefits<\/strong><br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Rent-free provision of the 68 m\u00b2 residency flat (1 large room with separate simply furnished living\/working area, kitchen and shared bathroom) with WiFi.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>additional expense allowance of \u20ac900 per month per artist in residence<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>travel expenses for one return journey.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>one-off subsidy of \u20ac500 per residency towards the costs of running and organising a final presentation<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Grants are intended for one person.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Application criteria<\/strong><br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Professional international solo artists age 23 or older residing outside Germany working in the fields of visual arts and photography who are interested in Hamburg\u2019s cultural scene and wish to build a cultural network in Hamburg are invited to apply for the residencies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Film, multimedia, and music must have a connection to visual arts. This residency is not intended for curators.<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Westwerk e.V. will be responsible for mentoring the respective artists in residence. Westwerk is an open artists\u2019 centre with regular art and music events. This enables contacts to be made, including to the Hamburg cultural scene.Grant recipients must take out health and personal liability insurance at their own expense for the period of residence; residence permits\/visas if necessary are also the responsibility of grant recipients.<br><br>The place and format of the final presentation will be agreed with Westwerk. Smaller exhibitions and media-based presentations of artistic work as part of a public event are also conceivable, as are lectures, presentations of work or discussions with artists in the bar room or possibly in the hall, and will be supported by Westwerk.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Organisation<\/strong><br><br>The artists\u2019 centre is not affiliated to a hotel business, and so grant recipients will be personally responsible for the care of the premises. Preparation of meals is also the recipients\u2019 own responsibility. Recipients will be expected to treat the furnishings and fixtures of the accommodation with care, and the continuation of the arrangement will be dependent on this; this must be confirmed in writing. There is a no-smoking policy on the premises and unfortunately no family members or pets are permitted to live there.<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>During their stays, artists will have the opportunity to explore and get to know Hamburg<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"id-941697950__h2-4\"><strong>Applications<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/am.hamburg.de\/intelliform\/forms\/HH\/standard\/pro_elan_residency\/pro_elan_residency\/index\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>Applications can only be submitted online (in German or English)<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"id-941697950__h2-4_h3-1\"><strong>Following documents are requested:<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>informal covering letter with contact details (max. 1 page of A4)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>personal statement including project outline (max. 2 pages of A4)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>curriculum vitae in tabular form<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>proof of private personal liability insurance (to be handed in after confirmation)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>evidence of artistic work, max. 5 MB (photos, catalogues, media reports\/reviews, website, etc.). Please do not submit links.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"id-941697950__h2-4_h3-2\"><strong>Information about the desired residency period. Several periods can be selected:<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>A) January 1 \u2013 March 31, 2027<br>B) April 1 \u2013 June 30, 2027<br>C) July 1 \u2013 September 30, 2027<br>D) October 1 \u2013 December 31, 2027<br>E) January 1 \u2013 March 31, 2028<br>F) April 1 \u2013 June 30, 2028<br>G) July 1 \u2013 September 30, 2028<br>H) October 1 \u2013 December 31, 2028<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There is no guarantee that the applicant&#8217;s preferred date will be granted, however we will try to meet the applicant&#8217;s date requirements.<br>Following the residency, the grant recipient will be expected to submit a written report on the experience gained and make it available to the Ministry of Culture and Media no later than one month after the residency ends.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>The submission deadline is August 27, 2026, at 11:59 p.m. CET.<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>An expert jury will decide on the award of the residencies.
