{"id":16530,"date":"2026-06-03T10:30:54","date_gmt":"2026-06-03T08:30:54","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/artscouncilmalta.gov.mt\/?post_type=opportunitie&#038;p=16530"},"modified":"2026-06-03T13:54:11","modified_gmt":"2026-06-03T11:54:11","slug":"co-production-roadmap-masterclass-for-maltese-producers-filmmakers","status":"publish","type":"opportunitie","link":"https:\/\/artscouncilmalta.gov.mt\/en\/opportunitie\/co-production-roadmap-masterclass-for-maltese-producers-filmmakers\/","title":{"rendered":"CO-PRODUCTION ROADMAP MASTERCLASS For Maltese Producers &amp; Filmmakers"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>Introduction<br><\/strong><br>This masterclass is conceived\u00a0in two complementary parts and is designed for Maltese producers and filmmakers interested in developing international co-productions, initiating new collaborations, or strengthening existing partnerships.<br><br>Practical Masterclass: <strong>6<sup>th<\/sup> July 2026 from 9.30am till 3pm<br><\/strong>One-to-one Consultations: <strong>7<sup>th<\/sup> July 2026, as per assigned slot<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>About Jennifer Sabbah-Immagine<\/strong><br><br>The workshop will be led by Jennifer Sabbah-Immagine from The Copro Agency.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Jennifer Sabbah-Immagine is the founder of The Copro Agency which provides consultancy and mentorship services, specializing in the initiation, development, implementation, and piloting of international projects across co-production markets, European institutions and professional training organizations. Jennifer is a seasoned expert in co-production and international legal affairs, bringing over 20 years of hands-on experience across key roles in the industry, including Line Producer, Head of Development, Business Affairs Executive, and Producer. She has worked in the UK and US and in France at Arsam International and KinoElektron among others, overseeing large-scale and noteworthy co-productions. Since 2007, she has produced, with Jihan El Tahri within Big Sister, talents from African countries and the MENA region, including\u00a0 Nasser (Tiff 2016) and Mariner of the Mountains by Karim A\u00efnouz (Official Selection, Cannes 2021). She holds a Master\u2019s degree in Audiovisual Law, Business, and Management, as well as a University Diploma in International Law and is a member of EAVE.<br><br><br><strong>Practical Masterclass<br><\/strong><br>The first part consists of a practical masterclass offering a clear roadmap for initiating and structuring co-productions through the legal implementation, the financial framework, the building of collaborative and transparent partnerships, and the translation of these partnerships into deal memos and contractual structures. The workshop also provides guidance on avoiding common pitfalls in international collaboration.<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>PROGRAMME<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>INTRODUCTION<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Practical definition of a co-production and implications<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Overview of business models and copyright regimes<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>THE CO-PRODUCTION ROADMAP<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol style=\"list-style-type:lower-roman\" class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Legal framework<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Official &amp; non-offical co-productions<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Examples will include international treaties involving Malta<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Obligations &amp; compliance<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Financial framework<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Types of international financing sources<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Working with international standards: breakdown of expenses and financing plan<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Collaborative &amp; transparent partnerships<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Cultural awareness in practice<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Balancing co-production and ethical practices<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Contractual framework<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Initiating a coproduction: choosing the partner(s)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Negotiating key terms (MOU)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>One-to-one Consultations<br><br><\/strong>In addition to the masterclass, participants may apply for one-to-one consultations based on their projects. These tailored sessions provide feedback on market positioning, financing plan structure, and financing strategy.<br><br>Only participants who attend the entire workshop on 6<sup>th<\/sup> July will be eligible for one-to-one consultation sessions.<br><br><strong>Workshop benefits for producers and filmmakers:<br><br><\/strong>Participants will gain practical insights into the mechanisms of international co-production, financing structures, partnership dynamics, and strategic collaboration tools applicable to both ongoing and future projects.
