This International Cultural Exchanges Scheme forms part of Arts Council Malta\u2019s Internationalisation Strategy for the cultural and creative sectors. It addresses international cultural exchanges, focusing specifically on the outgoing mobility of Maltese and Malta based artists over 18 years of age as well as their art works and cultural productions.

The objective of this scheme is to assist Malta based artists with the following:

\u2022 To encourage international collaborations and exchanges with the aim of building bridges with the rest of the world so as to enable further understanding and gain trust with other people through culture
\u2022 To increase international accessibility and exposure, to tour their productions, to build networks and to experience the work of artists from around the world in its cultural context
\u2022 To promote cultural diversity and strengthen cultural relations worldwide
\u2022 To showcase creative excellence to international cultural programmers, festival-makers, operators and audiences at large and to sustain and develop professional work.

This scheme supports:
\u2022 Participation in international festivals, exhibitions, showcases, films, artist residencies and fairs.
\u2022 Marketing, including digital as well as printed adverts in, for example, international art\/literature\/film magazines, train stations, subways, buses, bus stations, ferries, parks, websites, social media platforms, TV programmes etc. This is specifically intended for overseas collaborations\/projects
\u2022 The production of audio visuals of completed artworks and cultural productions, which are then presented to international programmers, producers and collaborators overseas. This could include, for example, the filming of a theatrical or a dance production, filming of art installations, poetry readings, exhibitions, fashion shows etc
\u2022 The production of websites and demos for international promotion purposes.

In line with its commitment to supporting the arts through its sustainable and accountable approach to public investment:

Applicants are encouraged to give due consideration, as appropriate, to the principles explained in the Right to Culture \u2013 Resource Pack<\/a> when developing their proposal in relation to how they engage with communities and the considerations of everyone\u2019s cultural rights in their work. This resource pack is aimed at increasing awareness regarding inclusivity and supporting the implementation of cultural rights in our day-to-day practice.

Applicants are also expected to give due consideration, as appropriate, to the main principles outlined in the Charter for the Status of the Artist<\/a> when proposing their operational and programming activities to ensure fair and just working conditions for artists. These include the right to artistic freedom, improved accessibility, formal\/informal\/non-formal skill recognition, decent socio-economic conditions, non-discrimination and equity, ethical considerations and adherence to intellectual property rights and international labour law. The Charter for the Status of the Artist is meant to provide a dynamic frame of reference for any legislation, policy, or initiative which directly or indirectly impacts artists and cultural and creative sectors, ensuring that any action is aligned with the ultimate long-term vision of elevating the status of artists in Malta in line with their tangible value to society. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
