{"id":2216,"date":"2025-02-19T08:40:59","date_gmt":"2025-02-19T08:40:59","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/artscouncil.abcnow.xyz\/?post_type=funded_project&#038;p=2216"},"modified":"2025-02-19T08:24:35","modified_gmt":"2025-02-19T08:24:35","slug":"the-new-victorians-mara-at-the-national-theatre-of-scotland","status":"publish","type":"funded_project","link":"https:\/\/artscouncilmalta.gov.mt\/en\/funded-project\/the-new-victorians-mara-at-the-national-theatre-of-scotland\/","title":{"rendered":"The New Victorians: MARA at the National Theatre of Scotland"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">During the first quarter of 2018, The New Victorians performed their multidisciplinary theatrical piece entitled MARA for five nights at the Vault Festival in London. MARA is an original piece of theatre that celebrates the story of women through time by means of sound manipulation and electro-acoustic music, performed live. Starring an all-female cast, the work was devised by the company, and composed and directed by The New Victorians. MARA was supported by The Mackintosh Foundation and played to sold out houses as part of the Valletta 2018 European Capital of Culture Programme and at The National Theatre of Scotland\u2019s Exchange Festival in Inverness. MARA is a journey through time, showcasing original songs and music as well as physical theatre, highlighting that every story is worth telling, and that no voice should be silenced.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Performing at The Vaults Festival has proven to be a brilliant stepping stone into the international theatre scene for the cast of MARA. Performing five shows has proven to not only be a learning experience, but also a great opportunity for networking:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>\u201cThis project opened many doors, allowing us to showcase our work to various producers and programmers. Being in London allowed us to set up meetings and speak to producers about our show face to face rather than over email, thus starting good relationships with venues and programmers. Thanks to the fund we were able to take 14 Maltese to London to perform\/work on an original show in London\u2019s largest arts festival. This gave the young company the opportunity and exposure desired.
