{"id":10807,"date":"2025-02-19T07:17:42","date_gmt":"2025-02-19T07:17:42","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/artscouncilmalta.gov.mt\/?post_type=funded_project&#038;p=10807"},"modified":"2025-02-19T08:24:31","modified_gmt":"2025-02-19T08:24:31","slug":"mitkellma","status":"publish","type":"funded_project","link":"https:\/\/artscouncilmalta.gov.mt\/en\/funded-project\/mitkellma\/","title":{"rendered":"Mitkellma"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>Mitkellma&nbsp;<\/em>is a television programme consisting of a series of short programmes which centre around a number of linguistic issues in a light-hearted fashion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The programme, which is visually rich in animation, also features: split-screen double interviews (e.g., a Maltese and a Gozitan who have different terminology for the same concept; for instance, pegs, mattress and comb are described by the former as&nbsp;<em>labar tal-inxir<\/em>,&nbsp;<em>saqqu<\/em>,&nbsp;<em>pettne&nbsp;<\/em>and by the latter as&nbsp;<em>\u010bombini<\/em>,&nbsp;<em>mitra\u0127&nbsp;<\/em>and&nbsp;<em>moxt<\/em>); origins of the names of different localities; origins of surnames and nicknames; interviews with professionals from different work sectors, highlighting the terminology in each field (e.g., a local baker, pyrotechnist, barber, shoemaker, explaining the terminology in their respective fields); the story behind particular idioms and sayings; wordplay such as riddles, tongue twisters, witty retorts; interviews with speakers from different age groups which bring to light age related linguistic variation; the different ways word meaning changes through history (e.g.,&nbsp;<em>\u010banga&nbsp;<\/em>originally referred to a chopping board for meat and now refers to beef;&nbsp;<em>mazza<\/em>, a sledge\/iron hammer, has recently acquired the meaning of sexy, attractive); vox-pops with residents from different localities highlighting their dialects; dialects of emigrants (e.g., the&nbsp;<em>Maltraljan&nbsp;<\/em>\u2013 the dialect used by the Maltese emigrants in Australia which includes several words and expressions which are not found in the local language); and many other topics.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Supported by KulturaTV <\/p>\n","protected":false},"featured_media":10822,"template":"","funded_project_category":[39],"class_list":["post-10807","funded_project","type-funded_project","status-publish","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","funded_project_category-international"],"acf":[],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v28.1 -
