The project took place throughout 2014 and into 2015 with the aim of exploring the development and impact of artistic photography on the general public through different platforms.

“The Malta Arts Fund was instrumental to my plans to bring my Islelanders project to fruition. Though I’d been photographing the migration story for over a decade, I had previously lacked the funding to bring it all together as a cohesive piece. Once I was awarded full funding, the project gained extra credibility in the eyes of other potential sponsors, so it became easier to bring them on board to top up the funding I needed to mount the exhibition and publish the book. Since then, one thing has led to another – the main exhibition at St James Cavalier has been followed by further exhibitions and showings at the Council of Europe in Strasbourg, at the Ballarat International Foto Biennale, one of Australia’s top photography festivals, and at the Visa Pour l’Image Festival for Photojournalism in Perpignan, France, the world’s leading photojournalism festival, and there are more opportunities in the pipeline.
