In July 2015 *etnika (Touring Band) travelled to Rome to perform in the Gardens of the Roman Philharmonic Academy as part of the \u201cGiardini di Luglio 2015\u201dFestival. The performance included the use of traditional Maltese instruments such as the tambour, the biambo (Jew’s harp), the Maltese flute fifer, as well as Flamenco footwork and body percussion. The repertoire consisted of a number of rearranged transition Maltese tunes and a few of *etnika\u2019s original compositions, including Morning Star, Insi\u0121 il-\u0126olm, Valletta, X’Ser Ng\u0127annu, Popolin, Bumm Bumm, Orqod Orqod, Rummiena, Zahar, \u0126sus, Ara \u0120ejja and Festa Ta\u2019 Babu. The performance formed part of the group\u2019s new tour, which aims to expand its international network and take its music to new audiences.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThe Cultural Export Fund was instrumental in getting us to Rome and covering our accommodation and transport. The concert at the Philharmonic was organised in partnership with the Embassy of Malta in Rome which, like other embassies, had plenty of good opportunities to offer Maltese artists but not the budget to completely cover transportation, lodging, per diems and fees. The Fund helped fill in this gap – without it, we would have not been able to give the concert in Rome.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
