Minister for Culture, Lands and Local Government Owen Bonnici and Minister for Security and Work Byron Camilleri launched a financial assistance scheme for voluntary organisations to be given pecuniary assistance and support in relation to maintenance of order during the organisations of activities which take place from time to time in a number of communities.
In total, €600,000 will be invested over a period of two years. This assistance will supplement and increase the assistance already being given; it will continue being given to feast organisations for the activities which they host during feast days.
This scheme is possible after joint work between LESA and Arts Council Malta.
Minister for Culture, Arts and Local Government Owen Bonnici stated that, “This investment will see various voluntary organisations benefit, and therefore also communities in Malta and Gozo, as events open to the public organised by voluntary organisations will be given financial aid in relation to their expenses made in relation to the maintenance of order.”
This collaboration between the cultural and order sectors reflects the importance of the maintenance of order services in the organisation of quality public events.
Minister Bonnici continued explaining that, “The government is responding directly to the needs of the organisers in relation to security and logistical expenses, and is at the same time making these events more accessible for everyone.”
Minister for Internal Affairs, Security and Work Byron Camilleri explained that, “With the launch of this fund of €600,000, we are creating a structured way through which we provide essential security and order services for activities organised by local NGOs and voluntary organisations. This initiative removes the financial burden from these organisations while at the same time continuing to strengthen the assistance of the order-maintaining forces within our communities.”
This scheme is substituting a similar scheme which had been announced earlier during this legislature which had an expiry period of two years, which period closed this year.
